Crean and John Foley are thrilled to announce the creation of a new CEO Life Science peer-to-peer advisory group for San Diego CEOs with the leadership team at REF(Renaissance Executive Forum) San Diego. The focus of the REF group will be on more mature companies post-Series A funded companies including those nearing IPO’s and publicly traded companies. The new cohort is expected to begin in early 2025.   REF is a global organization that brings together business leaders in peer advisory groups to enhance their leadership skills and business strategies. Founded in the USA over 30 years ago, REF operates by assembling groups of 12 to 15 business leaders. These groups meet monthly, guided by a Forum Leader, to discuss strategic decisions and personal goals in a confidential environment. REF emphasizes the concept of "Collective Intelligence," where the diverse experiences and backgrounds of members are leveraged to foster better decision-making and personal growth. The organization serves as a hub for over 2,500 entrepreneurs, members, forum leaders, partners, ambassadors, and global speakers, providing a platform for sharing best practices and accessing new opportunities. This peer advisory model is considered more effective than traditional one-on-one coaching, as it builds lasting relationships and provides diverse perspectives that are crucial for both personal and professional development.   The partnership with REF is a recognition of the great work achieved by CEO360 with early-stage life sciences companies over the last 2.5 years plus a desire to take this platform to another level with a larger platform that REF offers for later stage companies. REF currently has a growing international footprint with an unmet need in Life Sciences well beyond the San Diego ecosystem. REF is well positioned to address those needs in 2025 and beyond.   CEO360 will stick to its core and not move away from its early-stage focus. The new REF cohort will be held in addition to the three CEO360 cohorts currently underway in San Diego, the Bay area, and via a new virtual group that will likely involve international leadership. The complexity of medical and capital sales is growing and there is a need for larger teams to close deals and successfully launch programs to provide a quality customer experience. SAS companies already take this approach involving a multi-disciplinary team, for example including Solution Engineers up front. Denovo Biopharma LLC received an $11.8 million grant from California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to advance its brain cancer therapy, DB107. The grant was awarded to conduct a Phase 1/2 clinical trial at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for patients with high-grade glioma and glioblastoma. Their DB107 drug, acquired from Tocagen in 2020, uses gene therapy to selectively target and destroy tumor cells. They also claim to have developed a technology to identify biomarkers that predict a patient's response to their drugs. With plans to expand its drug development process and biomarker discovery initiative over the next five years, they have raised about $180 million since its launch in 2012. They have eight drugs in its pipeline targeting cancer and mental health disorders. After attending the The MedTech Conference, here are some key takeaways and questions to bring to HLTH Inc. in the coming days: - MedTech investors are prioritizing #execution efficiency, focusing on both resource management and cash optimization, while demanding clear demonstrations of value. - #Discipline and #focus are essential: every dollar invested must create #value, and that value must be proven. - #Sustainability is becoming a top priority, not just for companies but for the entire healthcare ecosystem. We need to focus on #affordability, #implementation, and the demonstration of #benefits, ideally combining both cost-based and value-based approaches. Software medical devices are exploring new market access pathways in both Europe and the U.S., but healthcare systems are not ready yet. This raises important questions: How will this evolve? How can we define adapted and relevant routes for products that bring value to patients, healthcare professionals and systems alike?! These are key issues we’ll tackle at HLTH Inc. starting Sunday. While we may not have all the answers, I’m excited to brainstorm, explore, and hopefully collaborate with some brilliant minds (#whitematter 👌 ) to generate value and revenues within global healthcare systems.

Great graphic Amy Thompson - any reason Cardiology, Pulmonology and Neurology are represented here as specialties where as Breast, Musculoskeletal, Prostate, etc. are represented as Anatomic entities? By Musculoskeletal do you mean Orthopedic? What about Radiology? Is that a mixture of these segments? Would love to get thoughts from others, but I don't think this is how the market should be segmented. It should either be from patient value point of view or from a buyers point of view.

EY pulse of the medtech industry session at #mtc2024. NVIDIA talking with #medtech about how to serve patients and grow top line revenue by turning medical hardware into innovative software/hardware recurring type product/service with longer term relationship. Abbott gives an example of this, and Lisa MD President spoke of her initiative to create a “startup” Lingo (hellolingo.com) with her 8 medtech businesses which is catering to adoption of glucose monitors by consumers. 6m people with diabetes use their Libra device everyday. But some had been “hacking” the devices to live their best life. The Lingo product and service is consumer focused and paid out of pocket. Such direct-to-consumer models are very different to traditional large medtech way of doing business. Johnson & Johnson MedTech saying MDR has been a regulatory challenge. Compare with US FDA which has become much more predictable. Engaging early and involve them and have been progressive. For CooperSurgical which is focused on fertility medical solutions, India has been a huge opportunity to support couples with their fertility journey. Zoom Expands into Healthcare with AI Technology Zoom, which rose to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, is now looking to expand its presence in healthcare through artificial intelligence. The company has announced plans to incorporate ambient AI documentation technology, in collaboration with digital health company Suki, into its clinical platform. This technology will turn recordings of doctor-patient conversations into usable clinical notes within the electronic health record for both virtual and in-person visits. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts as demand for digital healthcare increases. Zoom joins an already crowded market of competitors, including Teladoc, Amwell, and eVisit. One challenge facing the company is the lack of consensus on telehealth reimbursement for providers. COVID-19 pandemic era waivers that extended telehealth reimbursement flexibilities are set to expire on Dec. 31 without congressional action. In the absence of federal rules, each state has its own set of reimbursement regulations.
