😯 71% of US CEOs say they feel like imposters 🤔 I know I was surprised to see that stat #KornFerry shares from a recent survey! And, the higher up the org chart someone ascends, the more acutely they feel imposter syndrome. What is behind this? It's not a lack of confidence or experience. Rather it's the massive number of significant challenges simultaneously: 🤺 transform their organizations 🤺 be the culture carriers 🤺 figure out the role of #AI in their business 🤺 navigate geopolitical challenges 🤺 satisfy investors 🤺 speak to social issues So the combo of being confident AND humble is effective. This opens up the path to know you don't have all the answers and you don't need to pretend. A few suggestions to up your odds of success: 👉 hire direct reports that push you up vs you pulling them up 👉 have an "advisor" or #peeradvisory trusted group where you can share your challenges and gain perspectives and d options 👉 learn how to tap into your creative side 👉 be intentional about staying healthy (sleep, diet, exercise, meditation) How else might you do to manage your imposter syndrome? 🎬 Hollywood's Gender Inequality Crisis: Time for Real Change! Despite the growing calls for equality, Hollywood is still far from achieving gender parity. The latest research reveals some shocking statistics: 🚨 Only 30 out of the 100 top-grossing films in 2023 featured female leads—a steep decline from 2022, rolling back to levels seen over a decade ago. This trend is more than just a metric; it represents the shrinking opportunities for women in the industry. 💰 The gender pay gap remains staggering: Female stars earn $1 million less per film than their male counterparts, even after controlling for factors like experience and genre. This gap isn't just about paychecks—it's about the systemic undervaluation of women's contributions in Hollywood. 🎥 Representation is still lacking: Since 1929, only 17% of Oscar nominees have been women, with less than 2% being women of color. Out of nearly 500 Best Director nominations, only 8 have been women, and just one has been a woman of color. This highlights the severe lack of diversity both in front of and behind the camera. It's time to move beyond conversations and demand real, actionable change in Hollywood. I've recently earned my Human-Centered Strategy certificate from IDEO. For me, this approach has always made sense—successful strategies are built around people, not just processes or numbers. So, I thought I’d explain a bit about what “human-centered strategy” is and why it’s important for businesses. In a nutshell, it’s a way of creating business strategies that start by focusing on people—whether they’re your customers, employees, or stakeholders. Instead of the traditional, top-down method of setting goals and processes and hoping people will fit into them, human-centered strategy works a little differently. At its core, it is about designing strategies that are rooted in empathy, considering the needs, motivations, and experiences of those who will be impacted by the strategy. This might sound simple, but it’s a shift from the way many companies operate. Understanding the humans behind the business decisions helps companies create strategies that are more likely to work because they’re rooted in real needs and behaviours. Why does it matter? The world’s changing and businesses need to adapt quickly to stay competitive. But strategies that are disconnected from the people expected to implement them, or that don’t really reflect what customers are looking for, tend to stall. Human-centered strategy can solve that problem. Here are a few reasons why it works so well: It fosters innovation: When you start with a deep understanding of your customers or your team, you open the door to new ideas that really connect with what people want or need. Better employee engagement: Strategies often fail because the people expected to execute them aren’t really on board. With a human-centered approach, employees feel valued and involved, which leads to better engagement and commitment. Stronger customer loyalty: At the end of the day, customers stick with companies that understand them. By designing strategies that truly meet their needs, businesses can build lasting relationships with their customers. Sustainable growth: When strategies align with both the business and the people who make it happen, companies are better positioned for long-term success.
