Here’s a breakdown of the two: ### Software System Testing (SST) **Purpose:** - Verifies the complete and integrated software system. - Ensures that the software meets the specified requirements. **Focus:** - Functional testing (does the system do what it’s supposed to do?) - Non-functional testing (performance, security, usability, etc.) - Integration testing (checking the interaction between different modules). **Performed by:** - Professional testers (QA team). **Methodology:** - Test cases are written based on requirements. - Both automated and manual testing approaches are used. - Often involves regression testing to ensure new changes don’t break existing functionality. **Output:** - Detailed test reports with findings and identified defects. - Feedback for developers to address issues. ### User Acceptance Testing (UAT) **Purpose:** - Confirms that the software can handle real-world tasks and business scenarios. - Final step before the software is accepted for production. **Focus:** - Real-world application (ensuring it solves the actual user problems). - Testing from a user’s perspective (user experience and satisfaction). **Performed by:** - End-users or clients (sometimes with support from the QA team). **Methodology:** - Use cases and scenarios derived from actual user requirements and day-to-day operations. - Often involves manual testing, with users executing real-world tasks. **Output:** - Acceptance or rejection of the system. - List of user-reported issues and enhancement requests. ### Key Differences: 1. **Objective:** - SST: Ensures the software is bug-free and meets technical specs. - UAT: Ensures the software meets business requirements and user needs. 2. **Focus Area:** - SST: Technical correctness and functionality. - UAT: Practical usability and business viability. 3. **Testing Personnel:** - SST: Performed by QA professionals. - UAT: Conducted by end-users or business stakeholders. 4. **Test Basis:** - SST: Based on system requirements and design documents. - UAT: Based on user requirements and real-world scenarios. In essence, while SST ensures the software is built right, UAT ensures the right software is built. Both are crucial for delivering high-quality, user-centric software solutions.
