Got a new GBS leader gig? Come to the preliminary conclusion that no one in the enterprise can "do GBS" so you're running out to hire your tribe? Or been in role for some time and think the best answer is some fresh new blood? Many of us think GBS is mystical and magical, and only card-carrying experts who show up at conferences and like shared services posts can create enterprise value. Workday being sued with claims their AI is bias. One to watch and if it the court case is successful it could have wide reaching implications for software vendors in the Talent space. A proposed class action has been filed alleging that Workday violated federal anti-bias laws by using artificial intelligence-powered software to screen out job applicants for other employers for discriminatory reasons (age, race & disability). The court case alleges that the claimant has been rejected by over 40 jobs and all of them have been powered by Workdays software. Workday are claiming that they have no control on what their clients do with the software given how it can be configured… however the EEOC feel differently claiming that Workday can plausibly be considered an ‘agent for the employer’ and thereby a ‘employing agent’. I find myself considering the following factors: ❓- if AI is being used as the screening mechanism, what level of automated rejection and human in the loop validation is present? 🪟- how explainable and transparent is Workdays AI matching algorithm 🕶️- what level of AI auditing is in place? 😳- how much of this is actually a human rejecting the candidate with no explanation, and therefore the candidate begins to wonder if it is the software. Companies and software vendors alike may find ourselves seeing more and more of these cases coming up as it may be easier to blame the AI (the faceless entity) than the human. I am sure Workday will be rolling out plenty of lawyers to throw it out. Shout out to Dr Natalie Sheard for sharing this originally. #ai_bias #workday #ai_discrimination

Workday is pleased to endorse Sen. Brown's (D-OH) S. 4889, the Federal Jobs for STARs Act, legislation supporting a #skills-based approach to #talent for #federal roles. Following executive action that spans the last two administrations, there is growing momentum behind a federal #skillsfirst approach. S. 4889 would codify this progress by tasking the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to: ✂ Require agencies to cut degree requirements for federal civil service roles (unless OPM deems them necessary), 🏛 "Prescribe regulations for hiring of employees by executive agencies regarding alternative qualifications...", 🛣 Work with agencies to establish skill-based hiring paths within USAJobs, and 🎓 Join with the Office of Management and Budget on a feasibility study looking at resource for non-degree federal employees to gain education credentials. Workday believes #skills are the right lens through which to view the #futureofwork. They are directly tied to clear business outcomes like creating new lines of business, improving R&D returns by global talent distribution, and AI innovation.
