At Semicon West 2024, tucked away in the corner of the show without much pomp and fanfares an intriguing development caught my attention - the unveiling of an open-source AI Large Language Model (LLM) tailored for the semiconductor industry. This chatbot, similar to ChatGPT, is designed to intelligently interact with users within the semiconductor sector. Given the typically secretive nature of the semiconductor industry in safeguarding their knowledge, this development is quite remarkable. While the initial training data used by the organization is likely based on fundamental knowledge, it will be fascinating to observe whether the model can rapidly evolve independently to match the advanced insights of major players like TSMC, GlobalFoundries, Intel Corporation, Samsung Semiconductor, and others. If successful, it could accelerate semiconductor developments around the world. Exciting news from Arbe (#nasdaq: ARBE), an MS-IR LLC client, announcing the company’s tier-1, Sensrad , has signed an agreement with Tianyi Transportation Technology to supply 4D imaging radars powered by Arbe's advanced chipset. Valued at an estimated 7 million euros, this collaboration will advance vehicle-road-cloud integration across China, with deliveries starting as early as the third quarter of 2024. "Congratulations to Sensrad on this significant achievement,” said Kobi Marenko, CEO of Arbe. “This agreement is a clear demonstration of the market’s recognition of the superior performance and reliability of Arbe’s 4D imaging radar technology. We’ve returned from Semicon West. When we are in Santa Clara, we occasionally get the time to drop by the Intel Museum. Most of us at WFI US entered the industry in the early-mid 1990’s, so we missed the very earliest days. We got pictures of their earlier microcontrollers and EEPROM displays, with the microcontroller display in the picture below. On that day, there weren’t any class tours, although we’ve been there at the time there were tours. Fostering early talent is critical, especially for the larger organizations.
