To gain market share and serve your customers well, you need to scale your data with your company. Take it from CHG Healthcare’s data transformation journey — which transformed company culture, too. A market leader since 1979, CHG has always prioritized providers and hospitals (and, ultimately, patients). Their vision is to “put people first.” But as they acquired new businesses and the company grew, their #data infrastructure didn’t scale. Everyone up to the C-suite level felt the pain of siloed and untrustworthy data, and they struggled to make decisions as a result. As Principal Product Manager Luke Stenis explains, CHG needed to change its organizational culture “from the data out.” To do this, the team: ❄️ Centralized data from every channel into Snowflake 🔄 Built a 360 view of each doctor they served 🤝 Used a #composableCDP to build audiences and customer journeys This process helped them to put people first by putting data first. Here are Luke’s five key takeaways from CHG’s journey. 1. Stick to a single source of truth When data comes in from many sources and you aren’t clear on which number is right, you can’t make decisions for the organization with confidence. Start #DataTransformation by establishing a single source of truth to support a single, 360-view of your customers. Use this source of truth (ideally a cloud data warehouse) to also support data governance, reporting, and analytics. 2. Be flexible with your roadmap Luke and his team created an aspirational roadmap for data transformation that spanned three to five years. A lot can change in an organization during that kind of timeframe. “You don’t know what’s going to happen a little further down the roadmap, [so] you need to be flexible,” Luke explains. The CHG roadmap is broken into phases and sections. They work toward quarterly objectives so they can progress and stay agile. 3. Tie back to the company mission and vision When building and advocating for the roadmap, Luke’s team connected the work to the CHG vision of “putting people first” to ensure buy-in at every level of the company. Tying data transformation to specific business outcomes will help you speak leaders' language, show how data affects the bottom line, and evangelize data efforts to the C-suite.  4. Invest in training and enablement Don’t just train your “power users” on the tools you choose for data transformation. Equip your leadership to use them, too, so they understand how to leverage the tools strategically. When leaders see how data tools work firsthand, they’re more likely to change their strategy and talk about the tools in rooms where decisions are made. 5. Celebrate the wins Data transformation can take years to complete. Keep teams motivated by recognizing everyone who works on the project along the way and taking time to celebrate small wins. Embrace a “one team” mindset, and ensure everyone works toward the same outcome so they’re invested in doing the best job they can.

What's the most important go-to-market decision Brightside Health has made? On Category Visionaries, Brad Kittredge (CEO of Brightside Health) shared their pivotal moment: Most mental health startups were running away from high-risk patients. Brightside ran toward them. "You know what happens when you refer those people out? Those patients are a hot potato.
