Shippers ICYMI: On January 27, 2025, UPS will change the definition of the 40 lb minimum overlength penalty. Although UPS announced this change on October 21st, details regarding the dimensional calculations have yet to surface. For many shippers, if you are not getting hit with this cost today, it will be difficult to identify the impact this will have on your business based on the way UPS passes over information. Typically, UPS will only pass over information on length, width and height if it triggers a cost event.   FedEx typically provides this information 90% of the time, even if it doesn't trigger a cost event. With UPS it isn't as clear.   If you don't have a technology provider or a BI partner who can easily access this data, please make sure you are looking into the new rules around this change, so you don't get hit with penalties in January.

Shippers ICYMI… postal consolidation may be at a turning point. Louis DeJoy, Postmaster General, sent this letter to parcel consolidators: "We no longer intend to provide discounted rates through NSAs that incent parties to aggregate mail volume from multiple shippers, and bring such volume directly to the destination delivery unit"... "We therefore wish to begin negotiations on modifying your Parcel Select contract to remove Destination Delivery Unit (DDU) pricing..." "... because we do not consider the entry of packages presorted to the 5-digit level at our plants to be consistent with processing economies, for most of the nation we no longer intend to offer differentiated DSCF rates based on whether volume is presorted to the 5-Digit ZIP Code..." "I want these discussions to move forward in an expeditious fashion and to conclude with an executed written amendment within 45 days." Make sure you aren’t left holding your packages.
