An incredibly insightful day at the GSA Executive Forum in Menlo Park, CA… starting with NVIDIA CEO - Jensen Huang as well as Dave Mosley - CEO Seagate, Kevin O’Buckley - INTEL, + Tesla, Infineon, Cadence, Arm and more… here were 2 salient points from Jensen Huang: On creating new markets vs. market share: And I don't like the idea that you wake up in the morning and supposed to go to your neighbor's house and take what they've got. You know, I really cover what you have, and I started to take what you have, and so, so it's, I don't like that psychology, no matter what, and, and, in fact, most of the we left a lot of businesses because there, there are many other players that were doing just a fun job. And, and I made a promise to the company. And this is now the other reason, the fundamental job of the CEO. There's a still, there's a mission statement for the CEO. My mission statement is to make a promise to the people that come there, that you will be able to do your life's work here, and it's my job to create the conditions for you to do so and when I live up to that promise, that amazing people come I'm surrounded, as I mentioned, by some of the brightest computer scientists the world has and they come to our company because I live up to that promise. If they're working on things that are somebody else has already done it, I'll tell them, let's not work on that. Let's go take care of something else, and so that this way they can go do something that's uniquely done, make a unique impact in the world. And so between these two ideas, NVIDIA is not an market taker. You see what I'm saying. Just between these two pillars, it forces me to go, have to find empty space, and it forces me to go find really hard problems. Decades out, it forces me to to go and take chances for where there's no market opportunities apparent. Now, by the time that we get there, we end up doing it very differently than anybody would have imagined, in order to do the work that we do and the work at the pace that we do… On time management: I was in Japan in July, and it’s hot… (I see a man) …he was squatting down on the ground with a little tweezer picking up what apparently is nothing was tweezing air andyou look at this basket, it's got all these little, tiny pieces of, must have been 20 or 30, pieces of tiny, little pieces of dead moss. And this garden, this moss garden, is gigantic. If you guys have been to this moss garden, it's the largest collection of awesome in the world. It's a beautiful art… and he goes, “I'm picking dead moss”. And I looked up and I said, your garden is huge. He said “I have all the time in the world”… it was at that moment I realized that we all have all the time in the world, you still gotta prioritize your time properly. AI is driving the next wave of growth for the semiconductor industry (and those of us in the industry can't wait to see the anticipated growth 😉). Recently, I was encouraged to watch a keynote featuring Jensen Huang of NVIDIA. While it's highly informative and I recommend watching it in its entirety, what struck me most had nothing to do with AI. Around 36:05, the facilitator asked Jensen to provide advice on how to achieve success. His response is profound, drawing parallels between expectations, resilience, success, intelligence, and character. His commentary on how he leads his 55 direct reports (yes, 55!) is also thought-provoking. Qualcomm recently approached Intel about a potential takeover, sparking discussions about Intel’s future. As an ex-Intel employee, I feel shocked and nostalgic about the company founded by Andy Grove potentially changing hands. Intel has struggled with missing key technological trends like cloud computing, mobile processing, and AI, but I believe a takeover could help it catch up. Intel’s stock has dropped significantly, and Qualcomm might sell parts of the company to complete the deal, which could face antitrust challenges. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993 with Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem, driven by a vision to revolutionize computer graphics. At the time, Huang was 30 years old and brought valuable experience from his work at LSI Logic and AMD. NVIDIA started in a small office in Santa Clara, California, focusing on developing graphics processing units (GPUs) to enhance gaming experiences. Their first major product, the NV1, launched in 1995, combined 2D and 3D graphics with sound. However, it faced limited success due to its unconventional design. Despite early challenges, NVIDIA persevered and gained traction with the release of the RIVA series in 1997, marking its entry into the competitive PC gaming market. I appreciate the opportunity to express my views on behalf of Percepio® on the need to bring Observability Driven Development (ODD) also into the embedded/edge space, the massive heterogenous Operational Technology universe, often "the last mile" also in the most complex IT systems. Thanks to our founder and CTO Johan Kraft for insightful co-authorship, in this article in the New Electronics Outlook supplement, on gracious invitation by editor Neil Tyler. To briefly highlight by quoting myself: "The increasing complexity of embedded systems is challenging traditional development and testing methods ...
