America's shortage of primary physicians persists, resulting in worsening health outcomes across age cohorts. California recently made a bold statement by setting new benchmarks that support increased investment in primary care, and improve health outcomes. “Investing in primary care works: Research finds that when states invest more in primary care, their residents have better health outcomes and fewer visits to emergency departments and hospital admissions,” said HCAI Director Elizabeth Landsberg. “These benchmarks will make California a national leader in primary care investment, which is key to building a high quality, equitable health system and controlling costs.”  This is big news for those in the health care and insurance sectors. Starting January 1st, Temporary Total Disability (TTD) and Permanent Total Disability (PTD) benefits will increase by 3.8%, impacting the maximum and minimum weekly payouts for injured workers. • The weekly maximum TTD/PTD payout will increase from $1,619.15 to $1,680.29. • The weekly minimum payout will rise from $242.86 to $252.03. • This adjustment is based on updated wage data provided by the U.S. Department of Labor. Employers should take note of these updates and work with their brokers to adjust their workers' compensation strategies accordingly. Medical claims and Voluntary Benefits claims are different. In Medical, employees don’t generally get paid, and claims just happen. But in Voluntary Benefits, employees have to remember that they have the benefit, file a claim, and get reimbursed.
