Before we were Culture Shock we were called World Intel. This was because we started as a global news aggregator and evolved to enable users to learn a language based on local news in any language. In this video I show how you can use the news page to navigate different topics in your target language and use the world map to find news in any country. For today’s news, I tap into Italy (Italian news), then Turkey (Turkish), and finally Saudi Arabi (Arabic). I then click into an Arabic article and show how you can read in line translations or convert into a full course in seconds. This feature is primarily for our most advanced users since the language can be challenging, but it is one our biggest differentiators from the cookie cutter language learning apps in today’s market.

This was one of our first TikTok Q&As Bessemer Venture Partners produced over a year ago. I had so much fun with Eric Kaplan in The Big Apple taking b-roll and hearing his unique perspective on VC. Founders in New York are truly a different breed and the ecosystem, especially in AI and Fintech, are thriving. #BTS — This all took less than 10 minutes to film. In the initial cut of the footage, our editor had to clean up the background noise since the cityscape sounds were so loud in Bryant Park. Karen Lee (she/her), who leads our brand/social strategy, quickly got our team those li'l microphones which are SO effective and necessary (but also makes me cringe). Since then, she has done a stellar job of showcasing Bessemer's culture and VC insights across social video. Brand marketers — if you ever are doing social short video for your company, there's a definite value to capturing content in office to showcase what it is like inside the walls of the business.... but there's nothing quite like the background of cities like New York, San Francisco, among others.
