In the #automotiveaftermarket the new differentiator is the catalog. Gone are the days of everyone using the “triad” catalog data. If you are not tweaking the presentation of provided Pies and Aces you are already behind. The best catalogs today are provided by large footprint operations as a value add to their offerings. The Secret Sauce. On counter and online. I have had the recent pleasure to create a working data set for a Euro company that embraced tecdoc. There is a long way to go, but there is now a realization that the auto parts worlds are different and need very specific catalog details “to make the sale”. And that is the absolute goal. Nothing more, nothing less. Don’t over complicate the requirements. The HD world requires yet another iteration of the data. Presented and searched quite differently from MMY lookups, or engine code driven searches. Many options and difficult combinations required. Here is the tip for AI. The most important historical data to use is not sales data, but inquiries made. Catalog lookup data. (Yes #epicor captures it, you should too!) Creating the algorithms that suggest “fries with that” having foundation in facts. Mileage will be the new question. The issues to repair are known, packaging them in a searchable database is key. Currently crowdsourcing through vehicle content sites. A real PIA for consumers and techs to research. The new product managers will be vehicle specific, down to the generation of the platform. There are companies that are building content now, to sell, engage and capture customers. The aftermarket best practices are still forming. The old ideas are obsoleting like distributor points.

Perceived Value: Offering tires can enhance the dealership's perceived value and commitment to customer service. Without it, customers may feel less inclined to return for other services or purchases. 4. Customer Loyalty Programs: Dealers often use tire promotions to attract customers to their service departments. Not selling tires could mean missing out on opportunities to engage customers through loyalty programs. 5. Reputation Impact: Dealers that provide comprehensive services, including tire sales, often build a better reputation in their communities. A lack of tire offerings may lead to negative perceptions about the dealership's overall service capabilities. 6. Opportunity Cost: There’s potential income from selling tires that could help offset operational costs or enhance profitability, which is lost if they don't offer this service. Or maybe the service is offered but there is no focus! In summary, not offering tires can significantly affect customer retention, revenue, and the overall service experience at the dealership.
