So often, the focus on technology projects is the discovery, roadmapping, and executing. Focusing on the communications part of a technology project helps keep people aware and engaged with the work ahead. The best plans think about communications creatively and extend just beyond sending out email updates. This template has been a huge prompter for our clients to think about what messages, who should send them, and the best channels to use to keep people informed.

Before I got back into Public Transportation, I was CIO of a College. While that is not a typical "crossover" role (honestly, nothing has been typical over the course of my career) there are a surprising number of cultural similarities with how Higher Ed and Public Transportation approach IT (and often not in a good way). On my way to #gartnerSYM in Orlando. Last week, I had the chance to sit down with ExecutiveBiz to talk about what our customer’s priorities are for process innovation. An excerpt from the interview. “process optimization is about improving the speed, accuracy, or efficiency of current processes. But modern AI technologies allow you to transform certain processes on a more fundamental level. So, for example, you could choose to optimize an existing process around managing disability claims by using AI to automate certain steps in that process. But it’s also possible to innovate on a more fundamental level by using AI to access more data in real time to evaluate and even help adjudicate those claims automatically.”

Earlier this month, on June 11, we celebrated our 20th Anniversary at the Post-Industrial Institute. We were fortunate to have a great panel of guest speakers: Heather Jerrehian from ServiceNow, Dr. Mihir Parikh from Nishith Desai Associates, and Stefan Petzov from Swisscom, expertly moderated by Alison McCauley of Unblocked Future. The panel provided fascinating snapshots of how the enterprise is being reinvented from the inside out. Dr. Suresh Sunderrajan, SRI's President of Commercialization, provided welcoming remarks. We are grateful to have SRI as a supportive partner. Yours truly gave a talk attempting to summarize what we have learned in our quest to reinvent management science and support leaders building the organizations of the future. It was really an impossible task. Over the past 20 years, we have covered organizational design and transformation from A-Z, in theory and in practice. Our early work on the modernization of management practices for knowledge work, our predictions about the impact of decentralization and AI, it has all come to pass. Of course, for AI it's still early days, and decentralization of manufacturing and agriculture is also in an early stage. But it's coming. So what's next? In our upcoming Post-Industrial Summit 2024 FALL, on November 5-6, we will be focusing Super-Productivity and AI Agents. We will be looking at the revolutionary impact of AI on work and careers, and we'll examine other aspects of work as well. AI will make people MORE important, not less. Enterprises are not as well prepared as they should be. The Summit will again be hosted by SRI in Menlo Park. Mark your calendars, we'll provide more details soon. Have a great weekend, everyone!
