Conducted research on the Chilean dialect of Spanish and its roots in the native languages and cultures (Mapudungun language/ Mapuche culture, Quechua language/ Inca culture). Had the rare opportunity to hold conference with a top archaeologist and see exhibits, including the Niño de El Plomo, in the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural in Santiago, which was closed to the public at the time. My research combined approaches from history/ historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and formal…

Patient Agency in Interpreter-Mediated Discourse

Goal: The goal of this project is to observe patient-provider interactions mediated by a Spanish Medical Interpreter in a hospital setting to explore the impact of interpreter service on patient agency and involvement in the healthcare decision-making process. This project will be submitted as part of a master's thesis.
