About

I'm a tech media entrepreneur who sold my company to deepen my commitment to helping capital and resources reach entrepreneurs saving our planet.

I write, research, and consult on the future of work and how to help communities navigate the jobs of the future. I have worked with and led strategies for Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, major philanthropic foundations, and others.

I've built and sold two businesses, led teams of incredibly talented people, and now turn research into accessible and digestible connections between innovators, business leaders, and communities.

Right now, I'm curious about how we build a new world of work through accessible workforce development opportunities that also solve our most pressing issues in climate, health care, financial accessibility, housing, and more.

That was me 4 years ago, passionate about delivering diverse narratives on how the world of technology was being shaped by women and founders and investors of color. Those 5am dates with my laptop eventually turned into a reputable data-driven news and insights platform I built from a clunky MailChimp theme, a $10 domain name purchase, and a few advertisers like Capital One and Goldman Sachs that helped me pay the bills.

    Let's dig inside the magic:

✓ Grew The Plug from a free daily tech newsletter to becoming one of the top-tier publications corporate executives, D&I leaders, and business reporters flock to understand what's happening in the Black innovation economy.

✓ Developed early databases tracking diverse-led coworking spaces, tech conferences, research and more used by producers at ABC SharkTank, WSJ, The Information, and featured in big hitters like Fortune Magazine and VICE News.

✓ Recruited, onboarded, and manages a team of 8 freelance writers, 2 managing editors, a video producer, and graphic designer to help move The Plug from my kitchen table to a full-scale digital platform.

✓ Activated partnerships, newsletter sponsorships, and virtual events with Capital One, Goldman Sachs, Knight Foundation, Facebook Journalism Project, McKinsey, Nielsen, and more.

✓ Achieved 30% month-over-month subscriber growth, and doubled revenue goals year over year.

Tresata monetizes big data with incredibly smart software to crunch all your internal data and all your (rapidly exploding) social data at the intersection of which lies value that delivers an unfair competitive advantage.

I came on board as a contract consultant helping Tresata re-imagine its 7th annual city-wide hackathon and throw a bit of sauce on the first health-care focused data hackathon helping Charlotte build tools for its most pressing public health challenges.

    How the work went down:

✓ Negotiated first pick up / drop off lot at Wells Fargo Championship PGA Tour tournament resulting in 50% increase in weekly business growth and over $1MM in earned media.

✓ Developed the UberMENTOR campaign pairing millennial riders with local CEOs and women in leadership. The campaign was adopted the following year in Boston, Chicago, and Miami.

✓ Created fact sheets and city market reports analyzing community impact of ride-sharing on public transit, neighborhoods, and reduction in drunk driving; consulted with local police and transit authorities.
