🚀 SQL Challenge Alert: Cracking Danny’s Diner! 🍱🎯 Day 3 I’ve just solved the first question from the 8-Week SQL Challenge—and I want YOU to be part of this journey too! 👉 Question 3: What was the first item from the menu purchased by each customer❓ To determine the first item each customer purchased from the menu, you can use the following SQL query, which identifies the earliest order_date for each customer and joins with the menu table to get the item details: CTE (RankedPurchases): It ranks each purchase for every customer by order_date using ROW_NUMBER(), ordering from the earliest purchase. Main Query: Selects the first-ranked row for each customer (where RowNum = 1), which represents the first item they purchased. Many people think being a data engineer means you'll get to build sweet pipelines and code in Python or SQL all day. What they don't tell you is the inordinate amount of time you'll be dealing with networking, authentication, and credential-based issues you need to solve on a daily or weekly basis before you can do the 'fun' stuff! However, I do feel fortunate to be at an organization that gives me the autonomy and responsibility to learn this side of engineering because I've always favored learning how the whole system works and not being too narrowly focused.

More fun with investigating Salesforce's Settings metadata objects... Out of roughly 127 Settings metadata types I've now been experimenting with, two Settings types account for 84% of the total memory used when parsing all retrieved org settings types to a JSON data structure. Can you guess the culprits? AddressSettings and ForecastingSettings I'll confess those are areas of the platform I don't have a ton of experience with, but it seems rather crazy for that much configuration to have to get duplicated to each Salesforce org? 🚀 SQL Challenge Alert: Cracking Danny’s Diner! 🍱🎯 Day 5 I’ve just solved the first question from the 8-Week SQL Challenge—and I want YOU to be part of this journey too! 👉 Question 5: Which item was the most popular for each customer❓ To find the most popular item for each customer, you'll need data that includes customer IDs, item names, and the quantity or frequency of each item purchased. Here's a general SQL query to get this information: Explanation Inner Query: Groups data by each CustomerID and Item. Sums the Quantity of each item purchased by each customer. Outer Query: Selects the maximum TotalQuantity for each CustomerID to find the most popular item. If there’s a tie (multiple items with the same quantity), you might want to use ROW_NUMBER() to rank the items for each customer and pick the top-ranked item. But wait... This month I’ve been seeing a lot more Data Analyst positions opening up. How long will this last? No one knows. But, this is a sign that even in a volatile Job market opportunities can spring up when least expected. This is why it’s best to stay prepared. Keep your skills sharp, keep your resume updated and remain consistent in your job search. Play around with the terminology. Don’t just search Data Analyst, but also try to search by the skills you acquired. For example type in “Power Bi” in the job boards and see what all roles pop up. You might be surprised what roles come up that don’t necessarily have the title “Data Analyst” Eventually one of these open roles will be sending you an offer letter. This is the time to stay prepared or get prepared. The market will bounce back before you know it.
