Behind the Scenes with AGC's Superintendent, Steve Brown We recently had an insightful chat with Steve Brown, a 40-year veteran in the construction industry who brings invaluable experience, knowledge, and wisdom to AGC. Steve is currently overseeing one of our largest projects in recent years - Cuatro at City Heights, a development by Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation, in collaboration with City Heights Community Development, the The City of San Diego and San Diego Housing Commission. This project spans four parcels at the intersections of the 15, El Cajon Blvd, and University Ave and will feature 117 units in 4 buildings. Steve shared, "What we do, it’s quite complicated. We have around 40 different subcontractors & site conditions that I coordinate with at any given time to actually get a building done. I direct the teams to ensure they essentially get it right. Every job is different, presenting unique challenges with different subcontractors. From scheduling to safety, I make sure everything gets done efficiently.” Safety is a top priority for Steve. "I am in charge of safety because what we do is inherently dangerous. We strive to give everyone on our projects a safe environment to work in." “In a single day, for example, the team has completed grading and is now moving on to concrete, plumbing, storm drain, rebar, and electrical work.” Steve remarked, "This project, when complete, is going to be 117 units in four buildings on four plots of land. It's one of the largest projects AGC & I have embarked on, right behind Bella Villaggio." Steve not only helps train our team but also ensures that every intricate detail of the project is meticulously managed. His leadership and commitment are pivotal in bringing Cuatro at City Heights to life. #TeamMemberoftheMonth #GeneralContractors #AllgireGeneralContractors #ConstructionIndustry #Superintendent

VECA Electric & Technologies
Construction Safety Week – Day 3. We listen, collaborate, and embrace every voice to improve individual participation around safety topics. Each person, regardless of position or tenure, should feel their ideas are heard and any concerns acknowledged. Today’s jobsite focus is hand-held cutting tools. Lacerations often result from using the wrong tool, or the correct tool but in an unsafe environment. We reduce these risks by providing the right equipment for the task, securing materials properly, inspecting tools and safety guards, following tool instructions, and prohibiting unsafe tools such as fixed open-blade knives. Brawley Company
🎉Cheers to one year! Our Corporate Safety Manager, Brandon Simpkins is celebrating his one-year anniversary with us and what perfect timing as we kick of Construction Safety Week this week! 🎉 About Brandon: I received a degree from Appalachian State University in Building Science with an Architectural Technology and Design Concentration. When I began my career in construction, I performed various tasks, with safety management among them. As I gained experience, I focused exclusively on the safety aspect of construction after witnessing how an effective safety program can benefit both a company and its employees. My title is the Corporate Safety Manager. At Brawley, safety is a priority at every level. It’s been great to work with the team here and continue to help keep every person on our jobsites safe. That’s the best part about this job – making sure our workers return home to their families. As our safety moto goes, “Safe today, for tomorrow.” Searching for good restaurants, outdoor sports, camping, and traveling are a few of my hobbies. Typically, I need the approval of my 15-year-old beagle, but as long as he’s included, things usually go as planned. #Brawley #buildingfortomorrowtoday #safetodayfortomorrow #constructionsafety #constructionsafetyweek #constructionsafetyweek2024

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
We were honored to help organize the Kansas City regional pre-event for Construction Inclusion Week, bringing together industry leaders to raise awareness and foster discussions on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the construction industry. This event was a collaborative effort with our peers from Kansas City at Clark Construction, DPR Construction, Turner, Gilbane, Mortenson, SMOOT Construction, JE Dunn Construction, and HOK. Our very own Ralph Powell, Director of Community Outreach and Supplier Diversity, presented at this event on the importance of diversity and inclusion in the construction industry. Here are Ralphs 3 key takeaways: 1. We are all at different stages in our journey toward a more inclusive and equitable construction industry. The diverse curriculum offered during CIW helps meet people and teams where they are, driving manageable and sustainable change. Individual commitment and accountability are key to continuous progress. 2. Despite being competitors, everyone in attendance shared a commitment to fostering a more inclusive industry. It's clear that Construction Inclusion Week plays a vital role in making construction an exceptional field. 3. The benefits of inclusion in construction are undeniable—more innovation, better problem-solving, enhanced teamwork, and stronger community relationships. A diverse workforce elevates not just our industry, but the communities we serve.
