Either I wouldn't have survived in today's college athletics landscape or I would have absolutely thrived in it. Thankfully, I played when I did. When I started off at Stony Brook University, I walked into a culture shock. Workouts were like torture, I was overmatched physically and the mental aspect was like a foreign language to me. I knew I had a lot of growing to do, no question about it but this was. far beyond what I could have imagined. Year 1, I redshirted because I wasn't ready to play. Year 2, I played 8 minutes per game on a team riddled with injuries. Year 3, I played 7 with a handful of DNP's. By the time I was a senior, I was captain and the only thing that kept me off the floor was foul trouble. My point is this: without the years of growing without playing, I wouldn't be doing what I do today and I certainly would have never played professionally for a decade. In today's college landscape, where the transfer portal and NIL have taken the power away from coaches and continuity, it's never been more important to understand the players to their core as quickly as possible. Gone are the "feel-out" seasons and figuring out how to get the most to develop young athletes who are 18 or 19 years old. Now, more than ever, results need to come immediately or you risk losing young talent to another program that promises them the world. This is where I can help. Personality assessments come with more than 90% accuracy. When you have 7 or 8 new players each season, not only understanding them as individuals but having a clear road map of how to get them to gel removes teething, delivers results more quickly and can foster sustainability in a chaotic and ever changing landscape.

This upcoming issue will highlight a key topic in today’s athletic landscape: the importance of mental health integration in training and development frameworks. Article Abstract: Athlete mental health has become an essential focus for sport science and coaching. This article delves into how mental health and well-being can be embedded into Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) models, offering practical, stage-specific strategies for coaches and trainers. From foundational mental skills in youth stages to resilience-building during peak competition years, I explore the need for a holistic approach that enhances not only physical performance but also the psychological resilience of athletes. After over a year of hard work, I was honored to be selected to present my Senior Thesis Project to the School of Sport Science at Endicott College. I conducted my thesis on The Impact of the Menstrual Cycle on Exercise Performance. It is my heartfelt acknowledgment that the field of exercise science has long overlooked this vital aspect of women's health. Going forward I hope to educate others and learn more about this topic. NCAA Mental Health Survey & Research Insights – A Data-Driven Approach The NCAA continues focusing on understanding and addressing student-athlete mental health through rigorous research. In December 2023, the NCAA released findings from the Student-Athlete Health and Wellness Study, which surveyed over 23,000 student-athletes across divisions. Key findings include: Mental health concerns have slightly decreased compared to the COVID-19 peak, but disparities remain. Certain groups, including student-athletes of colour, those identifying as LGBTQ+, and those on the transgender/nonbinary spectrum, report higher rates of mental distress. Female student-athletes also continue to report higher levels of stress and anxiety than their male counterparts. The NCAA's Wagering and Social Environments Study is also underway, examining how the increase in legalized sports betting impacts student-athletes. This research explores problem gambling rates, fan abuse tied to betting, and how social media use contributes to mental health challenges. Preliminary results are expected this fall, expanding the NCAA’s understanding of these critical issues. GLP-1s For operators eyes only! Ignore the past and you’re doomed to repeat it. Just to set the background, for 25 years I ran the two largest clubs in the greater Philadelphia market. So I say this with my operators hat on. While the pandemic is at the forefront of the thoughts of the industry, let’s not forget the damage the boot camp studios did to us around 2018. We were all losing members to these strip mall store fronts. And no one knew how to stop the bleeding. Remember why we lost all those members. Because these operations promised guaranteed weight loss. And quite often delivered. Granted with unsustainable approaches, but those that lost weight didn’t care how. Well now comes along the GLP-1 experience. And once again millions of people are losing weight successfully. To ignore it just because you might see it as a quick fix diet drug is ignoring the wall you’re about to hit. When I built my wearable cardio program it was to compete with the boot camps. But what I didn’t have was a method to control intake volume. Well, GLP-1 takes care of that. Because we all know that no one will use an RD even if we have one. 🏓 Opportunity 🤝 Community 🌍 Empowerment These pillars are the foundation of my personal journey and the inspiration for my work: 🏓 Opportunity Growing up in a low-income family, access to sports opportunities was a challenge. However, Greenhouse Sports broke down those barriers for me. Through their Table Tennis Program, I not only trained and competed locally but also participated in countless English Schools Championships and other national tournaments. These experiences laid the foundation for my development as an athlete, ultimately enabling me to represent Nottingham Trent University and Great Britain at the European University Games and fulfill my dream of competing internationally, including at the Commonwealth Games for Bangladesh. 🤝 Community Greenhouse Sports provided more than just coaching; they built an inclusive community where young people like me were supported and encouraged to thrive. Their programs foster teamwork, mentorship, and a sense of belonging—qualities that were just as valuable as the competitions themselves. 🌍 Empowerment Sport has the power to change lives, and organizations like Greenhouse Sports demonstrate that every day. Got creative and really liked this drill to help athletes understand how to project themselves during acceleration. The pull from a partner really forces the athlete up and out of that first step. Once I see my athletes grasp the concept of not extending the foot during the acceleration phase, then I will help them with their projection using this drill.
