Well...I've been hit with a layoff for the 2nd time this year. So, I would appreciate any help with finding a new Product Marketing job! A little about me: 🧩 I've been in marketing for 8+ years, ranging from SEO to PPC to PMM to Manager. The last four years have been focused in Product Marketing because it's fun, it's a puzzle, and it moves sales needles forward faster. I have worked for startups and mature companies. 🧩 GTM Strategy: I’ve been in charge of go-to-market strategies for product launches, focusing on making sure launches align with company goals and current market needs. I have handled the whole process, from strategy to execution (including paid, email, and organic campaigns). 🧩 Audience Targeting: I've worked a lot with customer personas, digging into research and feedback to refine targeting. The sharpest DTC brands are moving away from a strictly online model in favor of a cohesive omnichannel strategy that incentivizes customers to shop at retail. Let me explain - Imagine being a prospective first-time customer of a DTC protein bar or a better-for-you functional soda brand. They may be interested in your product, but are unwilling to commit to a full pack size and the associated shipping fees just to try your product. What do you do? For customers who cite pain points around online shipping costs, higher costs of goods, or SKU choice, providing a personalized retail offer can provide the flexibility needed for shoppers who’d prefer to find your brand locally. And it’s no secret that the eCommerce sandbox becomes increasingly crowded and more expensive to play in year over year. Now that the dust has settled from its surging successes during the pandemic, it’s been interesting to see which brands double down on their DTC storefronts versus those expanding to retail. When executed well, a cohesive omnichannel approach can better buffer your brand against the volatilities that are all too common in eComm and give your brand the flexibility to maneuver overall strategy more toward DTC or retail channels as is needed. Several B2B attribution tracking platforms and SMS cashback programs (shoutout Aisle) can make personalized retail campaigns a breeze for your brand. Coupled with creative in-house loyalty strategies, brands can deliver a multidimensional customer experience that meets shoppers where they are to boost retention and maximize LTV. But, do these retail offers support our DTC campaigns, or rather cannibalize them? It can be easy to overlook the “cohesive” piece to this strategy. Before implementing any incentives or messaging around pushing DTC customers to retail, it’s important to understand the why behind each of your customer cohorts and what drives them to either shop online, in-store, or subscribe. This is worthy of its own post, but brands can start collecting data points with the help of post-purchase surveys or cancellation surveys – something that Stay AI’s RetentionEngine can assist with. This is a first step but certainly not the last step in ensuring effective Product - #ProductMarketing collaboration to lead to successful launches. I've always used a similar Product Marketing Overview template w/my #ProductManager partners. It becomes my 'Inside ⚾ Baseball' info repository for all the cross-functional works that required. A few elements to keep in mind: ⏰ Timing: It's critical that this info is collected well in advance of any product being released (both internally or externally). Minimum 30 days, if not 60 days+ is a good guideline, depending on complexity and launch requirements. By being aligned w/Product leadership, you'll know what's on the roadmap for the next several quarters, so you can start working on this for each substantive release w/plenty of lead time. ⛏ Digging Deep: This is not a 'one and done' exercise. And certainly not just a solo 'homework assignment' for the PM. This should be a joint exercise, with a lot of back and forth, with Product Marketing pushing to get as much info from Product as possible. There should be a lot of "right, but why?" And "how can we prove that?" And "but why does someone care?" And "what does this let the customer do now that they can't already do?" Only by asking lots of Qs to your product manager can the salient points be codified (or info gaps identified!). The process can sometimes be a pain, but the results are always worth the effort. 💡 Continuous Progress: In addition, as development of new functionality occurs and the product becomes more refined, more knowledge is gained. That's why it's important to continually revisit the info you collected w/your PM partner, to augment as you get closer to launch. Many times, new benefits and values become more apparent as products get more fleshed out and tested in more 'real' environments. 📖 Words Matter: Spend time on getting the right terminology and verbiage in your descriptions w/your partners - before sitting down to work on website content, collateral, press releases, etc. Make the effort to align w/the Product Managers ahead of time on how you characterize and describe things, before you start creating messaging, content, etc. This eliminates the last minute fire drills and resultant pushback on any of this content when it's about to go live. 🤝 Cross-Functional Collaboration: Share the info you're collecting with your partners across the org: Customer Success, Implementation, Tech Support and across GTM/Sales. This will help you identify what enablement materials are needed (both for internal and external needs) ahead of time so you're not frantically putting things together at the last second. With appropriate planning and work in concert with your internal partners and internal customers, you'll find yourself in a much better position to drive successful product launches that deliver real impact 💪, from driving revenue to boosting customer satisfaction 📈.

New data from Sprout Social, Inc. shows nearly half of consumers are interacting more with brands on social media this year, and which networks and content they're gravitating towards most. Our Vice President, Social, Content and Brand Marketing, Layla Revis, summarizes the key takeaway for marketers: "Each social media platform is vastly different and while comprehensive social strategies are essential to success, it’s important to hone in on what consumers want out of each app they use."

What's the *magic* number for hiring your first full-time internal communications role? 250 employees? 500 employees? 1000 employees? We're hiring ours at 60. ...is that TOO early? Maybe, but I think it'll be incredible to see what an internal communicator can do when they aren't tasked with fixing a system and culture that's already broken, and are instead given the freedom and trust to build it the way they would want it from the very beginning. 💙 #internalcommunications #employeecommunications

The more I work in this industry the more I realize that COOs (or anyone in Operations for that matter) are essential and unsung heroes. They can make or break a startup/company. While CMOs drive sales, devise ad strategies, and bring business into the company, it's the COO that handles all the underlying logistics of not only realizing company goals, but also making sure that the organisation lives and breathes on a day-by-day basis. Good COOs establish order from chaos, and make a solid plan with the resources allocated to them. Equally, COOs that do not communicate effectively and are not guided by an overarching goal risk demotivating the entire organisation. #operations

A friendly reminder -- people attempt to understand new things in terms of things they already know. Don't overcomplicate your message and try to impress your audience (customers, prospects, friends, family) with big words or novel concepts off the bat. Steve Job's iPhone prez has been studied and praised more than a child's first steps. But one of the most underrated aspects is how Steve reminds the audience of 3 things they know -- an iPod, a phone, and the internet. He repeats this a few times, giving the audience a moment to draw connections between the 3 and relax/laugh ... before delivering the punchline that he's about to introduce 1 product that combines all 3. Big time chef's kiss. You can also think of this concept as providing a reference point for your audience. It's why the beginning of a story, pitch, positioning is so important. The audience will create their reference point whether you want them to or not. Listen for this --> So the next time you're telling a story, giving a sales pitch, communicating a new product and your audience cuts you off and says, "Oh, I think I get it. It's like a {THING THEY KNOW}, but with {AN ADDED/SUBTRACTED THING THEY ALSO KNOW}... it's a great sign that you started with too abstract of a concept.

Today's nugget: Make your creative and messaging stronger. That's the holy grail that will drive recall & tap into the consumer's need & move them to purchase eventually. This is primary.
