Here are some interesting stories from the world of retail for Wednesday, September 4: 🏥 RITE AID has exited bankruptcy with a new CEO, a smaller store footprint and less debt. The retail pharmacy chain named company veteran Matt Schroeder as its new CEO. 🛠️ LL Flooring is moving towards liquidation after failing to find a buyer. The company announced it will close 94 shops and has initiated going-out-of-business sales. 🏬 MINISO USA has opened its 200th US location, in Santa Monica, California. The company now has stores in 20 US states. Miniso’s store milestone in the US comes after a year of expansion in the country. 🦊 Foxtrot is set to reopen in the Gold Coast Thursday, the first of more than a dozen former Foxtrot locations slated to welcome back customers by spring. Foxtrot is relaunching and enhancing its core concept. 🛍️ A ban on plastic grocery bags in California is on its way to the governor’s desk. They prohibit grocers from offering any type of bags that are not paper, including the thicker plastic bags which are currently offered. 👟 Allbirds plans to complete a 1-for-20 reverse stock split at 5pm ET today. The financial maneuver is aimed at bringing the retailer back in compliance with the Nasdaq’s minimum bid price requirement. 🍖 Supermarkets and delis across New York have seen sales of Boar's Head Brand meats plunge as much as 30% following a deadly listeria outbreak that has been linked to the iconic cold cut brand. 🎨 Target customers are swapping lids on Owala bottles to make their own color combinations — and it's causing chaos in some stores. Owala sells replacement lids on its website for $6.99. 🚢 Global supply chains, now a couple years recovered from pandemic-era snarls, have been chugging along at a much healthier clip. There are some issues, but chains are a long way from breaking point, notes CNN. 🏗️ John Lewis & Partners is moving forward with an £80m rental housing project in Reading, UK. The partnership has submitted plans to convert a former warehouse in the town into a 215-flat development. 💊 Online birth control providers are booming amid restrictive care laws. Women’s telemedicine platform Pandia Health, for example, has seen its customer base triple.  🗳️ Political affiliations of brands might not have as much influence on purchasing decisions as some may think. Do store associates have the visiblity they need to quickly fulfill BOPIS orders? One of the best ways to provide a better customer experience is to process orders quickly. Every store associate has an application for processing BOPIS orders where they can see all the orders assigned to the stores. Whenever a customer places a BOPIS order at their preferred location, the store associate of that particular location gets notified. The notification is configured from multiple forms like email, texts, or any mobile app notification so that the BOPIS order can be processed immediately. While this communication is critical, we identified delays in BOPIS orders when store associates did not have a full record of outstanding BOPIS orders. HotWax Commerce provides a dashboard integrated with Shopify POS where a store associate can check how many orders are fulfilled and how many are still left so as to ensure that no orders are delayed. Today I finished the DTC 2213 Security+ course. It was a helpful and informative course including information such as security best practices as well as some technical information. There were a lot of cool, helpful projects in this course, including but not limited to, learning how to hide text inside an image and how to use command line tools to read and compare hashes.

In the Los Angeles Times, Marisa Gerber highlights the increasingly common practice of locking up merchandise in stores.
