There Are No Gatekeepers in Sync Licensing The myth: Syncs are an exclusive club, only accessible by paying insiders or having backroom connections. The truth: Music supervisors are simply huge music fans looking to discover the next great artist. Don't think of supervisors as unreachable gatekeepers. At their core, they are passionate fans who: - Spend hours scouring the internet for new talent - Take pride in being first to hop on undiscovered bands - Listen to unknown artists just as much as mainstream hits If you write off sync opportunities, you're missing massive potential for exposure and growth. Supervisors want nothing more than to be your biggest supporters. Sync music isn't about creating music for sync The more authentic your music is, the more fans and music supervisors alike will connect with your music. Focus on being you and music supervisors will find you. Make Supervisors Part of Your 1,000 True Fans You've heard of Kevin Kelly's 1,000 True Fans theory for a successful career. I believe that many of these "true fans" should be people in the music industry. - Managers - Publishers - Playlist curators And yes, music supervisors Having even 50-100 of these "superfans" provides an exponential shortcut through syncs, pitches, opportunities. Leverage Their Trusted Sources With 100,000+ new songs daily, supervisors rely on vetted tastemakers like labels, PR firms, and sync reps to filter priority music. Getting co-signed by these trusted sources is like having a professional vouch for you. You jump right to the front of the line for priority listens. No Secret Society, Just Fans At the end of the day, there are no pay-to-play schemes or backroom syncs. So remember, music supervisors and other "gatekeepers" are just superfans of music, with no hidden agendas. Focus 20% of your efforts on connecting with them and they'll provide 80% of the results.

Howdy, I’m Meagan! Longtime friends call me Meg. For my new connections, read on for a little about me. 2008: I spent my formative professional years in the methodical, structured, collaborative production industry as a freelance artist turned producer, eventually dipping my toes in creative video direction. 2017: I started a live music series called, “Loft Stories”, and partnered with brands like BREDA (MEGHANI), Topo Chico (The Coca-Cola Company) among others. The series became a top 3 listening room experience in Dallas/Fort Worth in less than three years with no funding and a lot of digital marketing! Out of the series more community support opportunities opened up in the form of a limited music video project (linked in my experiences), and two brand new music series concepts; one for The Hill Dallas (SHOP Companies), and the other for Sweet Tooth Hotel. I began consulting brand identities, social media marketing, and advocating for artists’ fair pay. This led me to speaking opportunities, showcase panels, and curating artist lineups for city-wide festivals and online streaming platforms. 2021: I was fortunate enough to join a start up company where I produced festivals, video podcasts, created a pop-up music package, and cont’d consulting. 2022: I conceptualized, produced and co-released an EP album-length visual project for a Pop artist. We created five music videos that would tell a coshesive story in collaboration with CinemaStory The same year I began booking music for organizations, cities, and venues, including Fair Park Dallas, which earned me the Director of Entertainment title for an amusement venue in Downtown Dallas. Through March of 2024 I had the immense pleasure of routing tours through Dallas, partnering with artists on album releases and concert after parties, while programming music nights, at times working with KERA – North Texas Public Broadcasting’s 91.7 KXT, DJ nights, and other events that successfully brought in a new customer base who otherwise may not have experienced the space. Today: I continue to championing the local music scene and searching for ways to elevate musicians who are putting in the work. In a dream scenario, I get to work with artists in some capacity for the rest of time. I value being in a position that connects people to helpful resources and opportunities that benefit their goals. Relationship is the name of the game for me, and I want to continue building the relationships that elevate the artist experience for all! FALL OF MAN - A TRAILER I'm stoked to present our latest A.I.-generated trailer for the sci-fi concept "Fall of Man." This one’s been in the vault for a bit, but I’m excited to actually get it out into the world! As someone who’s usually too wrapped up in projects to showcase the work, I’m making a conscious effort to share more of what I do at Vicious & Co. The workflow looks like this: 1) Midjourney - for all imagery. Most of my work these days is done in Midjourney, whether it's developing Film and TV pitch decks, pitch trailers/proof of concepts, or key art/posters. 2) Magnific AI - for upscaling/enhancing all images. 3) Runway - for all the video generation. Runway is, in my opinion, currently the best AI video generator. Does it get things right all the time? 50%?Probably not. But that's what the edit is for. You can reroll and adjust until you get what you're looking for. 4) ElevenLabs - used for voiceover conversion. The actual voice behind this was originally ME... putting on my best American accent (but even after 10 years of living in the U.S. my Aussie accent sneaks in on certain words). Using a real audio take of myself gives me the freedom to get the right inflection and attitude behind words. The Elevenlabs "speech to speech" is great at taking that and turning it into the voice you hear. 5) Music - Pixabay music user ArchitectSound who does some super amazing work! 6) Adobe Premiere Pro - for video edits. I'm trying to create more sharable samples like this as frequently as possible in between a fully booked work schedule. Here's hoping I get to the next one soon!

If you’re a filmmaker and you use generative AI to make posters, pitch decks, trailers, etc. then I can’t take you seriously. Because what you’re saying is you’d rather use a tool that steals from artists rather than collaborate with actual artists. And I get it. Generative AI…it’s fast, cheap, and easy to use. So are prostitutes. Doesn’t mean you should using them either.

Artists, managers, and anyone in the entertainment industry - Here's how the 80/20 rule can change your career: The 80/20 rule is also known as Pareto’s Principle - it states that 80% of outcomes result from 20% of causes. Basically, the majority of a situation’s outcome or impact can result from a small percentage of actions that drive the bulk of those outcomes. For example, the majority of a company’s profits may come from only a handful of customers. The profits are the 80% and the handful of customers are the 20%. This theory is so often overlooked with artists, creators, and their teams and it can really be of value in certain situations. Here's a few examples:  1) Finding your content format Let’s say you’re an artist or creator and are experimenting with different types of content. As an artist you’re testing out various kinds of short form content to support your music: -One format is you performing  -Another format is a behind the scenes look at making the song  -A third format interviews the people involved in making the song Over the course of a few weeks or months, you produce that content and launch it on your social media with enough output to get a sense of which format performs the best compared to the others. Abiding by the 80/20 rule in this situation would mean focusing on the format that is providing you the most return. 2) YouTube Creators Let’s say you’re a YouTube creator and notice that videos following a specific theme and length on YouTube tend to over perform compared to others. For example, you create content about books and noticed that your book breakdowns have longer watch time, more views, and more engagement than your other content. The 80/20 rule would suggest doubling down on that and repeating what works over and over again. 3) Marketing You’re thinking about a marketing approach for an artist, creator, (or maybe even yourself). What strategy will provide the most return on your work? Are there particular outlets that when posting your music you see more noticeable growth than others? 3) Your career as a whole Creative careers can be tricky because in many respects there is no blueprint - as a result, it’s easy to feel like you have to try a million different strategies or approaches and throw stuff at the wall. While that is true on some level, it’s important to monitor what sticks and double down on that. For example, let’s say you’re an artist and notice that certain markets consistently perform well for you. Instead of trying to conquer the entire country, double down on the 20% that’s accounting for the majority of success. It seems like a simple idea but so many people overlook this! Instead of trying to be everything and do everything all at once, it’s really helpful to laser focus on what you’re best, what provides the most return, and double down on those. NEED A VIDEO GAME DEMO REEL? I want to help! When I produce VO demo reels, I rely on my hands-on experience to craft and produce authentic spots for talent. This means using the same software, hardware, and techniques the big-name studios use when they work on video games, commercials, and others. I also have a super small team of writers who routinely write scripts for productions you’ve likely seen and played so each spot is relevant and tailored to your voice. For remote talent, I always slap on this emulation of the Avalon Vt-737sp at the beginning of the chain to mimic that “AAA sound.” This is only a small part of how detailed I am when it comes to producing authentic sounding spots.
