A report titled “Patients With Aetna Could Lose Coverage At NJ’s Largest Health System In Just Weeks” was reported by Carolyn Lewis. The Story indicated that “New Jerseyans insured by Aetna could lose coverage for hospitals, clinics and doctors in the expansive Hackensack Health networks.” The key words in the descriptive phrase was “...insured by Aetna…” A more accurate description should have been “…New Jerseyans CONTROLLED by Aetna…” This isn’t anything new. We have seen that the same thing happened with Blue Cross in Nebraska and Central and Southern Illinois. We have seen it happen with United Health Care in Kansas City and Southeast Missouri. Those being affected by this so-called “loss of coverage” are not policyholders at this point they are victims of a system that quite frankly has become completely dysfunctional in our view. The main reason problems like this arise, is because we as consumers have given these so-called insurance companies control of our money to pay our medical bills. We, therefore, have given a blank check with no bounds to control our medical destiny. The simple solution to this practice is to stop giving the Aetna’s of the world control of our money. When is a 2% Wind/Hail deductible NOT a 2% deductible? When the Total Insured Value NOT the scheduled building limit is used to calculate the per building deductible! Westchester form ACE0248 4/18 "The deductible will be calculated by applying the Deductible Percentage amount shown in the schedule above to the sum of all values listed in the most recent Schedule of Values on file with the Company for each separately identifiable building or structure that has sustained loss or damage and for which a claim is being made under this policy, subject to the Minimum Deductible shown in the schedule. Total insured value (not Blanket) for the quote I'm reviewing is $4,400,000 scheduled building limits are 4 @ $500,000 and 4 @600,000 so the 2% per Deductible per building is $88,000 not the $25,000 minimum deductible on the quote. The language on ISO form CP 03 21 10/12 is completely different "A. Calculation Of The Deductible – All Policies 1. A Deductible is calculated separately for, and applies separately to: a. Each building that sustains loss or damage..." The wholesale broker confirmed my interpretation of Westchester's form which of course means the quote is unacceptable.
