Couple of key takeaways for renewable energy developers and investors: 🌟Time Kills Deals ⌛ Permitting delays have been a thorn in the side of every real estate developer and renewable energy developer. The bill consolidates approvals for large projects into a single review by the Energy Facilities Siting Board and small projects into municipalities. It even includes set time frames for decisions: 15 months for large projects and 12 months for small projects. 🌟 Energizing Storage 🔋 It introduces new financial incentives and expands procurement opportunities for energy storage systems. 🌟 Offshore Wind 🌊 Extends contract terms for offshore wind projects from 20 years to 30 years. Reduces the job creation thresholds to qualify for tax incentives, improving changes for smaller developers. It's Machias Monday! AMS Renewable Energy is thrilled to announce our continued progress on the Machias Solar Farm in Machias, NY. This community solar project, developed by Radial Power LLC, spans 16 acres, located just an hour south of Buffalo, NY. With a capacity of 2.78 MW, the Machias Solar Farm will make clean energy more accessible to local residents, allowing them to save on their electric bills while reducing their carbon footprint. As part of New York's Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) program, this initiative enables subscribers to enjoy bill credits to offset their National Grid charges. Our innovative approach included designing an APA Solar Racking fixed-tilt array with ground screws, effectively addressing subsurface risks posed by glacial till observed during pull-testing. Can the US lead the way and deliver on #3xRenewables by 2030? 2023 is expected to close with a record 33 GW of solar added to the US grid and a cumulative operating capacity at 161 GW! Solar and wind generation combined will likely surpass coal for the first time in 2024, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) December Report: https://lnkd.in/g7SB7KJk. The Q4 2023 US Solar Market Insight Report from Solar Energy Industries Association and Wood Mackenzie found that solar accounted for 48% of all new electricity-generating capacity during the first three quarters of 2023, with utility-scale sector installing 4 GW in Q3 (58% growth over Q3 2022): https://lnkd.in/gRhyWuSM. Although, other data is cause for concern. Most notably, there is a significant drop in the planned project pipeline from 1,240 MW in Q2 to 240 MW in Q3 2023. Also, postponed coal retirements and more natural gas added this year means carbon emissions in the US energy sector will only decline by 50 million metric tons in 2024 (compared to 140 million metric tons from 2022 to 2023). Further, community solar installed 274 MW in Q3 has risen 14% since last year, but is flat since Q2, and “continued stagnation in some major markets as interconnection, permitting and siting challenges persist, “ noted Wood Mackenzie and SEIA. At COP28 UAE, 130 countries signed the Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency Pledge for three times more renewable energy capacity by 2030, or at least 11,000 GW. Despite China's efforts to deploy 50% of all solar worldwide in 2024 and over 60% of new onshore and offshore wind projects, China has 136 GW of coal-fired power projects under construction, with 255 GW announced or in permitting, along with 1,109 GW already operating and only 120 GW retired since 2000.
