“Truck blew a turbo, we're not going to be able to pick your load up today...” 😩 Ahh the old "blew a turbo" trick... Turbo's are apparently the most unreliable part on a semi truck. Drivers go through Turbo's like people go through toilet paper during times of uncertainty. This one phone call can ruin a full day. 1. Driver is late, who knows why 2. 20 minutes on the phone trying to find them 3. 20 minutes of the dispatcher explaining how turbo's work and why his drivers isn't... haha 4. The rest of the day figuring how to to clear your dock. When carriers don't show up you need a plan. Big Big Big companies run RFP's and build routing guides to fix this problem. The problem is that those tools are expensive and don't talk to your ERP or don't work for the business case. If you don't have tools in place to help you orchestrate your freight, I want to chat with you. We've just released our RFP tool and customers are absolutely loving it and it's accessible to companies of any size. We're on a quest to fix truck turbo's, next we'll figure out why tires only fail at the time of the pickup appointment.

NHTSA - One vehicle is stolen every 31 seconds in the United States. Consumer Alert: NHTSA Reminds Drivers to Safeguard Their Vehicles Each year, vehicle theft costs Americans more than $8 billion. Victims are left handling the aftermath, such as higher insurance premiums and vehicle depreciation if they're lucky enough to get their vehicle back. More than 1 million vehicles were stolen in 2023, a 25% increase in vehicle thefts over the previous few years. That’s the equivalent of one vehicle stolen every 31 seconds. What can you do to safeguard your vehicle? Park in well-lit areas. Close and lock all windows and doors when you park. Hide valuables. Don’t leave a running vehicle unattended. If your vehicle has an immobilizer, use your key fob to lock your vehicle. Don’t leave your keys in your vehicle — including when you fill up at the gas station. Purchase an anti-theft system if the vehicle didn’t come equipped with one. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, Hyundai and Kia models took the top three spots of America’s most stolen vehicles in 2023. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Honda Accord, Honda Civic and Ford F-150 series pickup also made the list. In response to a TikTok social media challenge that resulted in at least 14 reported crashes and eight fatalities, Hyundai and Kia rolled out free theft-deterrent software and hardware modifications. In addition to preventing thefts, drivers can use vehicle recovery systems to locate stolen vehicles and lessen the economic impact of the theft. Fleet surveys from ATA's TMC, Motive, and IMR found that top-ranking concerns for commercial vehicle maintenance industry leadership included technician staffing and the parts supply chain. Of the list, technician staffing and aftertreatment were the topics which worried respondents the most—stating that 45% found labor shortages and talent retention to be among the top concerns throughout the year. It's no surprise to many of us that labor shortages and talent retention are a big concern. As part of the Bus Patrol Safety Program, every Pottsville Area School District bus is now equipped with cameras to stop people from illegally passing school buses. The district recently partnered with the program to install AI-enabled cameras to help enforce stop-arm laws. The cameras can capture clear video footage of any vehicle unlawfully passing school buses at designated bus stops once the stop arm is extended. Now that the trial period is over, police are giving citations to any driver violating stop-arm laws. "The safety of our students is our top priority, and making sure that we can do everything possible to prevent people from unlawfully passing our school buses is a priority," said Jared Gerace, School Safety & Security Coordinator. The cameras are installed on the side of each bus, and the surrounding area is scanned once the stop arm is extended. Four cameras on the side, one on the top, and one on the front and back of the school bus work together to record a driver's car, license plate, and face if they pass the school bus while the stop-arm is extended. The bus patrol program then sends that footage to the Pottsville Bureau of Police or the Port Carbon Police Department for further analysis. The fine for a first offense is $300. "They do not send out the citation unless the police actually check it over themselves," said Donald Ditzler, Pottsville Area School District Facilities and Grounds Supervisor. The Pottsville Area School District Superintendent Sarah Yoder says the installation of the cameras has proven effective in reducing the number of drivers illegally passing school buses. "Yes, it's been effective to not only reduce the overall number of violators, but we do not have any repeat violators, so people are learning that we do have these cameras that capture them violating the school bus laws," said Yoder. Be patient Signal early No sudden moves Do not tailgate them Don’t cut in front of a truck Give them lots of room to turn Let them merge from the ramp Do not pass them on the right, if possible Give them space if pulled onto the shoulder Flash them in and give them space if they have a turn signal on If you cannot see their mirrors, they cannot see you - don’t be there And yes, truckers ought to follow these same rules. #trucking #roadsafety #truckers
