In the world of quality management, you want your company to have written procedures but there are tools, like the ones mentioned below, that can help to improve your processes and aid in overall manufacturing. Visual comparison guides with go/ no-go criteria are very helpful. Just in time training (going over the job flow and requirements with your production team just prior to the start of the job) can bring forward valid concerns from the team as you walk the process with them and they provide insight based on their experiences and abilities. Another thing to consider is empowering your employees so they feel they can bring issues forward at any point in the process. We encourage our employees to use a change request form that is designed to address job layout and process flow, it stays away from the technical side of things and asks employees if the job "flows well" or if it requires any "process improvements." We use their feedback to make small, non-technical changes to the process and they have responded well to being made a part of the solution and are now more likely to contribute their ideas.

I entered leadership at a young age (17). In my experience, all the accomplishments I’ve had, the success I’ve had, and struggles I’ve had validates why I’m an “outlier” compared to other leaders. Understanding what the difference is between a “Boss vs. Leader”, being adaptable, being moldable/ wanting to be moldable, learning to change your leadership styles and WHEN to change them. Knowledge is so powerful and has been the key to success in my experience. It helped me understand commitment to knowledge, being open minded, and accepting changes in the workforce. As the workforce continues to evolve and grow, younger people will enter leadership roles. But, is the workforce ready to accept that leadership? As a young leader, I struggled with having the buy-in from co-workers, subordinates, and upper management. Knowledge and my actions helped me to gain their trust and confidence. So in short words…. Let’s get to work! Pictured below: I graduated DSC with my BS in supervision & management with a Operations focus (Cum Laude). I will be wrapping up with Stetson University this semester and will be receiving my MBA (Magna Cum Laude, on track).

Dont be so quick to jump to the solution that you neglect asking the the right questions. If you aren't willing to spend the time asking good questions you likely will not find the true root cause of the problem.

Friends in Manufacturing, a colleague posed an interesting question that I would love to share with my network. Looking ahead to the next 10 years in manufacturing, what soft skills will be needed for leaders? It's easy to think about the generations entering the workforce, but there will be a generation exiting the workforce as well. Automation and AI. Feelings, sustainability and purpose. What are your thoughts?

Is it Ethical? I appreciate individuals who use vibrant and detailed language on their resumes (or LinkedIn profiles) to highlight their career achievements. However, I have noticed a concerning trend where some of this information veers into deliberate fabrication or, at the very least, misrepresentation of the truth. It is important to remember that the MedTech business world, although it may seem vast to outsiders, is actually smaller than one might think. It is effortless for someone to contact a former colleague who is connected to another friend, resulting in firsthand accounts of working with a particular individual. My guidance to others is to sell yourself and your accomplishments to the best of your ability, but always remember to maintain honesty and integrity.

Some thoughts from a hiring manager to candidates weighing the advice that resumes should be one page or less: -1 page is not a hard rule for me. 2-4 is fine if someone has a lot of relevant experience and a lot of relevant achievements to highlight. 10-20 is not no matter how much experience you have. -Your resume says a lot about your ability to clearly and concisely communicate important information. Listing pages of responsibilities with no results says to me that you have no achievements to highlight. It won't get you an interview. Your ability to communicate concisely both in writing (from the resume) and in person (during the phone screen and interview) is one of the things I am critically evaluating every candidate on when they apply for a job on my team. -Changing to a very small font size to get 2 or 3 pages of text onto one page is not the answer. As a candidate, think more about how to communicate relevant information that tells me you are qualified for the role in the most effective way instead of trying tricks like this to get it on one page. Making your resume unreadable because the text is too small doesn't make you a better candidate in my eyes.

This is such a true statement. If you expect those under you to perform in a way similar to you then you need to be a visible leader and live up to those expectations. If you behave in a way that is contrary to your expectations, they will never take you seriously and you will have a hard time influencing them at all.

As someone that is relatively new to management, I've only been in a management role since 2020, I know there is still a lot to learn and that I can always improve how I deal with the people I have been tasked to lead. The list below is a good starting point for self-reflection, but I would add one thing. It talks about regularly providing feedback to your team, but I would suggest scheduling time to allow your team to provide their feedback to you. Don't just address this at their annual review, give them a space where they feel they can provide constructive feedback that will help you improve as well. Letting them know you're listening and willing to have an open conversation may help your whole team improve and grow together.
