  • A survey on the application of Machine Learning algorithms to predict Software Aging

1st International Conference on Emerging Trends in Computer and Image Processing (ICETCIP 2013), FEBRUARY 2013; International Journal on Advanced Computer Theory and Engineering, July 2013, Volume: 2 Issue: 5.

Prediction of software aging is of vital importance as it is considered one of the major causes of software outages. This is a survey comparing 10 papers dated between 2010 and 2012 which are based on the machine learning algorithms studied, metrics monitored, tools used, platform used for implementation, results obtained and the result validation done. This work provides researchers with the latest trends and findings of this field. This was done as a part of the literature survey needed for…

  • Will o’the Wisp: Augmented Reality Navigation for Hikers

    HCI International 2016

In this study we discuss the design of a non-intrusive navigational aid for amateur hikers and evaluate issues of trust and efficiency. We conceptualized an augmented reality interaction to project on-demand GPS directions in front of the hiker, and integrated the system into a hiking stick. We implemented an Arduino-powered prototype to evaluate the concept, interactions, and form factor. Evaluation methods include heuristic evaluations with an expert panel, followed by a round of design…

Evaluation methods include heuristic evaluations with an expert panel, followed by a round of design iteration. This was proceeded by task-based usability testing with amateur hikers. Our results confirm that hikers adapted easily to the new interaction, though trust in the device was less forthcoming. Data also confirms the efficiency of the projected cues compared to a traditional paper map.

  • MARTAnow : A mobile application to ease transportation

    -

UX research, ideation, storyboards, wireframes and design for our app- MARTANow. MARTAnow provides a seamless door-2-door transit experience by augmenting public transport with low-cost travel modes.

I gathered insights through contextual inquiry, interviews, diary study and a survey to understand issues with MARTA use. I used these insights to outline requirements and begin early stage wireframing. At this stage, we entered the MARTA Hackathon where in a span of 24 hours we prototyped…

I gathered insights through contextual inquiry, interviews, diary study and a survey to understand issues with MARTA use. I used these insights to outline requirements and begin early stage wireframing. At this stage, we entered the MARTA Hackathon where in a span of 24 hours we prototyped our solution using Adobe Experience Design. We came first out of over 350 participants; MARTA found that our app was solving a key problem faced by public transit riders. I worked on the implementation of the android app with the developers on the team. We will hand off the working MVP to MARTA who will integrate it into their ecosystem.

HIV in India is a widely prevalent and complex disease. Treatment is an issue for the economically disadvantaged for financial and social reasons. When designing technology for this context it is important to remember not just the technical requirements but also the effects of stigma and other contextual factors.

Partner NGOs play a key role in the dissemination of awareness and treatment of HIV. Thus the outreach workers at the NGO are an important aspect of connecting with the HIV-affected.

I spent the summer of 2016 doing field work in Gujarat figuring out what the day in the life of an outreach worker is like. Based on the findings I created some designs that support their work. I returned in March 2017 to evaluate my designs. This phase involved deploying the designs, observing failures, quick iterations and redesign. In the next phase, I will create finalized finished designs and work with developers who will implement these for the NGO.

Diabetes is a disease that affects every fifth Indian. However, diet management in India is a challenge for cultural and social reasons. Through EatingRight, we address the problem of diet management at the household level. It is a mobile application that targets the “kitchen manager” or the one responsible for food preparation rather than just the diabetes affected individual.

Over the past year, I have been conducting interviews to understand the needs of diabetes affected Indian households and answer some of our major research questions.

This project is part of a collaboration with the Knowledge and Evaluation Research Unit at Mayo Clinic. Designers at Mayo Clinic have developed a set of cards that aid the discussion between doctors and their patients regarding depression medication options. We were tasked with developing a digital tool that could support this shared decision making process. This was interesting design challenge and my biggest takeaway was that in designing for a conversation:- Some features belong on the screen.
Some in the conversation, between the patient and the doctor.
