One of my hobbies is playing fantasy baseball. The game has completely changed from 5+ years ago and it now emerged in data (exit velo, launch angle, RPM, slot angle, etc). I was listening to a baseball podcast with a former MLB pitcher who discussed how the successful players did two key things. 1) Used the data and experience for pattern recognition. This pitcher in a 2-2 count to righties will toss a slider 60% of the time and change up 30%. Emerging yourself in the data and using experiences differentiated the good to great players 2) Curiosity. The great players always asked questions and wanted to understand why. Why were the pitchers always going inside on the hitter and what adjustments need to be made. Pattern recognition and curiosity are also the traits I see of top notch sales people. Those that embrace the data to recognize patterns and are always curious tend to finish on top. #salesleadership #salesenablement

People don’t realize what “closing skills” are in sales, and they’re not “is persuasive.” Reps with closing skills CONSISTENTLY know, can choreograph and advise on how the deal gets signed and returned. And their forecast accuracy reflects those skills.

Some sales reps are scared to get a no for a mid to late stage deal. Why? The best sales reps are always trying to get to no. I think it’s probably because then your pipeline will look weak to your leadership or you thought the early stage conversations went so well that you started to count your commission checks. Or you flat out just don’t want to get back to Ground Zero and start prospecting again. Whatever the reason is you need to stop holding onto things that aren’t progressing. They know where to find you if they start to buy. They’re not going to forget about you, so keep them in your tickler and do your due diligence but turn the page on people that are not coming back at you. #sales
