Today, we celebrate one year of #DAXCopilot (ambient clinical intelligence) general availability. As a clinician who understands the value of a people-first approach to healthcare, I’m pleased to share feedback and highlights from healthcare organizations across the country. With the help of DAX Copilot, clinicians are simultaneously able to see more patients while getting more time back to spend with family at home. And while time savings per visit may be one of the most common metrics applied to demonstrate ROI for ambient clinical intelligence (#ACI), IMHO the most impactful benefit of ACI may extend well beyond time savings. Most (>50%) clinicians are feeling burned-out and many are leaving the practice. If we can help clinicians, who are literally drowning with administrative work, stay afloat and help them regain the joy of medicine, then we will have made a dramatic impact on not only the lives of these clinicians and their families, but on the patients they serve. When clinicians regain the time to have informal conversations with patients and not feel time-pressured to focus only on the problems at hand, then clinicians will have regained the opportunity to (1) better understand their patients and the challenges they face, (2) uncover "hidden and unaddressed issues" including SDOH and mental and behavioral health challenges, and (3) strengthen the trust between patients and clinicians that nowadays seems to be waning and in need of fortification.

I was beyond excited to deliver the keynote at HLTH USA this year. The convergence of AI and cloud computing is set to transform healthcare more in the next decade than we've seen in the past century.   I’m thrilled about how our team delivered incredible innovations like CareIntellect for Oncology, which we’re launching next year, and how exciting early research projects like Health Companion can change the game for both patients and providers. CareIntellect for Oncology will streamline workflows to help reduce the overload that leads to burnout, while the multi-agentic AI Health Companion project explores taking multimodal data to create personalized treatment plans in real-time.    But what excites me the most? Clinicians need comprehensive patient information to deliver higher-quality care. But how can you unify data from multiple stakeholders?     For answers, look to Dr. Denise Hines, DHA, PMP, FHIMSS, executive director of the Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN), the state’s nonprofit health information exchange.    Dr. Hines is that rare leader who connects the dots in healthcare. Her deep experience in health systems, physician offices, technology vendors, and state government has prepared her to transform healthcare in Georgia.    How?    She’s advancing healthcare connectivity by expanding the HIE’s focus beyond traditional provider data. Leveraging InterSystems HealthShare, the exchange links to state agency information, historical lab results, telehealth data, and social determinants of health data.    A clinician can consult a patient’s admission, discharge, and transfer history alongside their housing data — all in an effort to treat patients in a more holistic way that addresses their full spectrum of needs.    This is exactly the kind of use case that makes our work worthwhile. One frequent use in my day-to-day is asking GPTs for feedback. Interpersonal relationships can sometimes filter out genuine, constructive insights. I’ve started using GPTs to analyze my emails to customers, transcripts of meetings, and presentations. The feedback on style, tone, and clarity has been invaluable. For instance, it helped me transform a "long-winded and overly direct" email to a customer into a more concise message with a friendly and accommodating tone. Some say, "AI is not going to replace humans, but humans with AI are going to replace humans without AI." AI has definitely helped improve my communication. P.S. I did use ChatGPT to give feedback on this post. I was looking for clear and engaging. How did we do?

For decades, siloed data systems slowed adverse drug reporting to a crawl. Now national healthcare organizations can access the data they need in real time. Here’s how #FHIR made it possible:   The #interoperability standard plays an essential role in Project BEST, an initiative from the FDA and eHealth Exchange that automates adverse drug event reporting and improves patient safety.
