💡 Highly insightful new market 📈 report we just released on the State of Heart Health tracking. A few key take-aways from my view: ⌚ 💍 Strong desire by Consumers to use wearables for preventative health tracking - ❤️ heart health tracking is their top feature. 👨‍⚕️ 89% of consumers would use a consumer wearable if a doctor prescribed and 95% would share their data with a doctor. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 69% of people would recommend using a consumer wearable for health tracking to a loved one or family member. 🏥 However...there is still a lack of trust by physicians with the quality and accuracy of data from consumer wearables - only 9% of providers find more than 75% of data from wearables as useful. ✅ Take-away - The convergence of consumer wearables with the healthcare market is fully upon us.  Consumer wearables have a huge opportunity to tap into this for broadening appeal that drives Consumer sales growth or new B2B healthcare sales expansion. Digital Health Acquisitions # 107 - # 108: Week of July 14th - 20th, 2024 Digital health M&A cooled off slightly last week with just two deals announced. 108: Commure acquired Augmedix in an all-cash deal valued at $139M. Augmedix, a company that previously went public through a SPAC transaction, was initially listed through a reverse merger with Malo Holdings Corp. in 2020 before listing through a traditional IPO on NASDAQ in 2021. This acquisition marks a significant move for Commure, as it aims to enhance its healthcare technology offerings by integrating Augmedix's capabilities in medical documentation and workflow automation. 107: The German/Dutch company Apothera GmbH / MYA Health acquires Disapo.de Apotheke B.V. from Europe's omnichannel premium beauty chain Douglas Group. Apothera has its main office in Berlin, Germany but operates its online pharmacy through Mya Health B.V. in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This acquisition is a strategic play to strengthen Mya Health's online pharmacy presence and reach a wider customer base. "Training is the test. The test is training" - a common sentiment that we've heard throughout our product market fit interviews among sports med professionals. We typically ask what the standard athlete "test" environment looks like, often times leading to a battery of methods that, well, don't look like training for sport. Is there value in mobility, iso-holds and jump screening - yes, absolutely. BUT, do these equate to training...? On the flip, we'll ask what training modalities or movements are the typical test for an athlete returning to training, post-injury. While the aforementioned screenings may be early filters, the final "tests" are typically loaded strength movements to ensure the athlete can absorb force and drive through a range of motion. A better option - isokinetic Olympic bar movements. Velocity controlled exercises that replicate the movements athletes do in training but capture the necessary strength and movement data necessary to inform test and recovery protocols. Appropriate for training and daily data capture. Appropriate for testing and required screening. Med Tech in Focus   Rotator Cuff Surgery Success Improved by Device Inspired by Python Teeth Engineers at Columbia University designed a device that mimics the backward curve of python teeth that nearly doubles repair strength in tendon-to-bone shoulder surgery. The device is made of biocompatible resin teeth set on a curved base. The sharp teeth are half the length of currently used staples, so they won’t break through the tendon and cause suture pull-through. The base can be customized to match a patient’s curvature of the tendon attachment site. Currently, successful reattachment is fraught with high failure rates estimated at 20% for younger patients with minor tears to 94% in elderly patients with massive tears. Most of the failures are the result of suture pull-through. It is estimated that about 600,000 rotator cuff surgeries are performed in the US annually at a cost of $3 billion. The engineers are now researching a bioabsorbable version that would dissolve when the tendon heals and reattaches back to the bone. Sports investments are everywhere. It's not uncommon for active investors to hear about a new sports related investment opportunity weekly these days. From pickleball teams, to women's sports franchises, to European soccer clubs, to sports technology. The opportunities are everywhere. On top of that we are seeing the democratization of sports investing with exciting startups making it simple for fans to invest in racehorses, amateur golf and tennis players, baseball players and so much more. I am personally excited to see what areas of sports investing catches the next wave of attention. A first pitch, whether done live or online with an audience is usually allotted 5-10 minutes. If it’s a read by a target investor from an email, you’ll get even less time to grab their attention. As reported on TechInvest Magazine PainChek (ASX: PCK), the innovator behind the world's first smartphone-based pain assessment tool, is inching closer to a pivotal milestone. In a significant update to the market, the company has announced it is in the final stages of its FDA De Novo submission process for the PainChek Adult App, with the final Clinical Evaluation Report nearing completion. Having wrapped up data collection across five US aged care homes in Iowa and New York in July 2024, PainChek has analysed the performance data from 105 participants. With these results locked in, the company’s Clinical Research Organization (CRO) is finalising the necessary statistical analyses. As PainChek prepares to submit the data to the US FDA, it marks a crucial moment for the company’s expansion into the world's largest aged care market, which services 1.7 million residents.
