IMHO on "Fair Use Licensing" (See: https://lnkd.in/gfC3vabZ)  1.) Open source has consistently accelerated innovation in the computing industry, ensuring foundational technologies can be shared by others who then expand upon them 2.) The creators of the foundational technology almost always gain the largest share of revenue from monetizing that foundation “IF” they build good marketing, sales, services teams, and maintain a good partner ecosystem.  3.) Without open source viral adoption, these same companies would almost never have achieved the same success 4.) Their internal debate to later change their licensing model, is almost always driven by a desire to make even more money, e.g., Company A hits $100M ARR, and has now stalled, Company A’s executives, investors, and sales team, sees others making money from their project and desire to stop them, assuming those same clients will come to them.  5.) However, a.) there is no assurance that those same customers would come to Company A, b.) there may be a reason Company A lost out to those competitors, and that should be investigated first (e.g., they provide better service, they have better sales strategies, they have better add-on products).  6.) However, there is another reason open source and open core companies may look to change their model, 1.) if Global System Integrators begin providing free support for their products, given they use these technologies in major projects so their ROI to support them is easy, and 2.) if other major corporations bundle these open source projects into their platforms, cutting off revenue to the originators of the open source, but not necessarily increasing their own sales, (I can mention lots of examples here that will make people mad).   7.) Therefore, there is a need to understand open core or FCL / FSL models.

Iterate.ai ... is partnering with Intel Corporation to offer an AI assistant that runs locally and privately on Intel AI PC platforms. Iterate.ai's product, Generate AI PC, will officially launch to consumers as a bundled product. The Generate #voice and written AI assistant that can create content, answer questions and securely reference personal data and documents locally without needing an internet connection. "Instead of using the whole world wide web is as its database, it uses everything on your computer — QuickBooks, Google Docs, Microsoft, OneDrive. ... None of your private files ever has to go to the web." Intel Corporation introduced Iterate.ai to another channel partner, TD SYNNEX (NYSE: SNX), which lists the software for sale to its more than 150,000 business customers in over 100 countries. This is a worthwhile overview on the bets Satya Nadella has made at Microsoft. His overarching them has been that with AI, every old fight and every old bet the Microsoft has made was back on the table, is paying off. He's made some big bets, including in OpenAI. A few didn't pay off, and a few more are still up in the air. He's successfully put Alphabet Inc./Google back on it's heals. He's forced Cisco to step up their security game. There are many variations of the "Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang..." meme at this point on LinkedIn, so here's a different take: Nvidia was a company that was incredibly lucky that their R&D happened to neatly dovetail with the needs of machine learning. For many years, only PC builders like me cared about the classic Nvidia vs. AMD GPU performance battles, and in that context, most of us were only looking at gaming benchmarks. (*Insert "Can it run Crysis?" meme here*) Then one day, a bunch of Bitcoin Bros with Vapes™ drove up the price of the GPU market because they thought consuming the same amount of energy as the entire Philippines was a good idea to solve math problems. Those math problems were stored in digital-coin form, so international crime syndicates could easily launder money. When money laundering fell out of favor, someone convinced impressionable Technology Influencers with Vapes™ that digital Beanie Babies would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars someday. So if you buy this JPG of a cartoon ape, all you need to take your actual REAL money and turn it into worthless math problems to buy cartoon apes. What could possibly go wrong? How do you solve those math problems to convert valuable USD into fake money to buy cartoon apes so crime syndicates can continue generating revenue? With an entire server room filled with Nvidia GPU's of course! Then, circa 2021 people got wise. "Wait a second, this s**t isn't real money, and I can still just download this JPG. Also, my grandma just got a call from some dude in India who convinced her to convert her Social Security into BTC and send it to an 'Amazon Refund Department' and literally nothing can be done about it. This sucks." People started dumping their GPU's on the open market. Thankfully, this mega-surge in now cheap GPU's allowed AI researchers to pick them up for pennies on the dollar. When Bitcoin Bros with Vapes™ lose, society wins. Suffice to say, yes Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang seems like a good leader and a smart dude, but his management style isn't really what drove Nvidia to success. All those R&D bucks spent accelerating CUDA cores for gaming nerds just happened to line up with the needs of AI/ML engineers. I know this, because I remember when Jensen Huang would do his big keynotes talking about how Nvidia GPU's performed on different gaming and productivity workloads. (Usually graphic designers or video editors.) The attached photo is an old lady sending money to a scammer on a Bitcoin ATM, generated with Midjourney. The tragic irony here being that it took a lot of little old ladies getting scammed to turn the GPU market into what it is today. The moral of this story is that crime does pay, as long as you're the one selling ammunition. Have a good weekend!

Recently I've watch the WWDC...And, let's talk about Apple Intelligence. Just using Tim Cook words and mixing with some thoughts about their new product rationale. ✨Tim :"It has to be intuitive and easy to use." ✨Tim: "It has to be deeply integrated into your product experiences. " 🤓 Me: Diggin a bit on this, many people assumed that Apple would just call OpenAI for all AI tasks. Instead, at WWDC, they revealed their own: ➜On-device model for simple tasks such as writing and summarizing content, including an on-device semantic index enabling Siri to take actions across apps. This means offline AI, many users will opt for Apple's on-device model for simple AI queries, avoiding public LLMs. ➜Private cloud model for advanced AI queries, ensuring your data remains secure. This means AI integrated across apps, OS, private cloud, and Apple devices ✨Tim: "Most importantly, it needs to understand you and be deeply rooted in your personal context, including your daily routine, relationships, communications, and other aspects of your life." ✨Tim: "And, of course, it has to be built with privacy from the ground up. " 🤓 Me: Unlike other AI players, Apple’s business model doesn’t require monetizing your data. Put simply, people don’t trust any other AI player with their data: ➜Google and Meta make money from targeted ads. ➜OpenAI has a lot of drama. ➜Microsoft is dealing with the fallout from its Recall feature. In contrast, Apple has long emphasized privacy. People’s trust in Apple to protect their data is a huge strategic advantage, as always I have my doubts but, let's see what happens.

Part 3/5 - 2025 Predictions and Trends 5-7 Yesterday, I covered what I think are the biggest and arguably most common trends and predictions that most people in the industry are already following. In simpler terms, my “no sh*t, Sherlock” stuff. Today’s points might be a little more controversial and open to interpretation, but let’s dive in: 5. Walled Gardens Continue to Win—And Win Big Eric Seufert has been saying this for as long as I can remember, but I truly believe that while we’re seeing the democratization of areas like app stores and the IAP landscape (which is great for developers), walled gardens and companies with the most varied and expansive datasets will continue to dominate. A clear and recent example is AppLovin vs. Unity. AppLovin is now approximately 12 times larger in market cap and could potentially swallow up Unity if it wanted to, a major contributor to this growth and success is because of extremely smart data plays with the acquisitions of MoPub and Adjust. That’s a scary thought for my old colleagues! The sheer scale of these data-driven giants means their dominance is set to grow even further. 6. AI Becomes Central to Game Ideation and Design AI adoption has been significant in areas like marketing (e.g., UGC and AI-generated actors for content) and within big studios for tasks like automating QA by mimicking user behaviour. However, very few companies are leveraging AI in the earlier stages of game ideation, design (beyond level creation), and production. I predict that in 2025, we’ll see the first game where over 50% of its foundation, such as the core loop, base code for the game mechanic, and initial documentation (GDD), will be generated by AI. A human team will polish it to completion, but AI will play a significant role in these early stages, changing how games are created. 7. Transmedia and IP Gain Traction in a Overly-Competitive UA World Cue Eric Kress rolling his eyes, but hear me out. Transmedia and integrated holistic experiences will begin to engage users on multiple levels. Think series, movies, and games all built around the same IP, drawing audiences deeper into their favourite characters lore and worlds. A great example is Arcane Season 2, but I think other players SEGA and The Pokémon Company International are following suit. Pokémon’s TCGP launch is a case in point, I believe it will generate at least $1 billion in the next 12 months (Phillip Black, mark my words). The real advantage of transmedia IP is clear: it enables mass-market acquisition for free (thanks to an established audience), effective cross-promotion across mediums, and cheaper UA through better creative performance driven by brand recognition. These may not feel as obvious as yesterday’s points, but there are enough recent signals to justify these assumptions. Tomorrow, I’ll round things off with points 8-10, and on Friday, I’ll try to get input from some industry friends before consolidating all of this and resharing!
