Here are some key takeaways: - Investment Strategy Insights: One of the standout moments was an insightful conversation between Navid Mahmoodzadegan, Co-Founder & Co-President of Moelis, and David Kaplan, Co-Founder of Ares Management. This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at a Ocean Partners co. A trading company involved in the trading of mineral commodities like copper, zinc, silver, and gold. During my time there, I delved deep into the world of critical minerals and had the chance to work on a variety of exciting projects such as analyzing pre-feasibility studies and created cash flow spreadsheets for graphite, zinc, niobium, and tin mining projects. I also reviewed mineral trading contracts, invoices, weights, assays, and shipments to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the trading process and conducted market research and presented my findings on graphite, niobium, and tin, highlighting their potential viability for future business ventures. This hands-on experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of the global mineral market and sharpen my skills in financial analysis, market research, and contract management. Thoughts after attending this event: - It’s important to bridge sustainable behavior in all aspects of life: think of any job as a sustainable job (it’s mutually inclusive and should be learned/taught in education or through work programs.) - Networking is a lifestyle: Use any event, outing, etc. as a chance to network & learn. (I had no idea Repowered also works towards the transitions for those in the re-entry processs from incarceration! I’m very passionate about this work and now have new opportunities or ideas.) - Regulations! (We have made great strides, but there’s still so much work that needs to be done. Over the summer, I enhanced my skills in Digital Culture and Data Analysis as part of my Capstone minor, culminating in a final project that allowed me to explore a subject that interested me. Throughout the course, I completed labs that sharpened my abilities in data visualization and analysis using Python, as well as website development with HTML/CSS. My final project was an exciting opportunity to merge my passion for advertising with data analysis. The unifying theme you might ask? Beer! My project, Unlock the World of User-Generated Content: Marketing for Beer Brands, delves into why this modern approach to advertising is essential for beer brands. What makes enjoying a beer so special? It’s the shared experience. Beer brands thrive on fostering camaraderie, something that can no longer be effectively conveyed through traditional advertising like billboards. In today’s world, storytelling, not just selling products, is what resonates. It’s not about marketers talking to us; it’s about real people sharing their experiences. Everything must be relatable. Now is the time for brands to embrace user-generated content, inviting the community of beer enthusiasts to become active participants in their story. It's hard to believe how fast time flies; it feels like I just started my internship a week ago. With less than a month remaining in my term at iA, I thought now would be a good time to share two key lessons I've learned during my time here. The first company I was tasked with researching had a simple product, but I had a few questions about it that I wanted answers to. Finding these answers proved to be much tougher than I initially expected. In an attempt to find them, I went to ridiculous lengths—digging through academic journals on material strengths and flipping through municipal government filings—yet I still came up unsatisfied. At the time, what I failed to realize was how immaterial these questions were to the overall investment thesis. I spent days searching for answers when I should have recognized earlier that my time could be better spent elsewhere. The takeaway? Before diving headfirst into a research direction, always take the time to ask yourself: “Is this actually important for the overall research? And if so, is it worth the amount of time I will likely spend researching?” Being a good investor isn’t about having the right answer to every question but rather having the right answers to the right questions. The second lesson is a reminder to put effort into taking care of our well-being. Eating the right foods, prioritizing sleep each night, and exercising frequently are all crucial. We all know the importance of these habits, but not many people manage to achieve them consistently, myself included. A healthy lifestyle is the foundation for anything and everything we do in life, and we owe it to ourselves to take care of our well-being.

✨Which path would you select… Pursuing a Master's degree or embarking on a journey around the globe? In 2014, I commenced my Master's degree program at the Chicago School of Psychology, brimming with anticipation for the incredible opportunities it promised. Simultaneously, I had applied for a position overseas, and to my delight, received the offer. My instincts urged me towards the travel🌎 job, yet there were moments during that initial year when I questioned my decision. I had always been advised to pursue roles with upward mobility, and now, I had just been entrusted with a directorial position. I recognized that the Master's degree could propel me towards my career goals. Nevertheless, I was also aware of the immense educational value of travel. While overseas, I acquired a few valuable lessons that still influence me today... ▫️Exposure to Different Cultures: Traveling exposes you to various cultures, languages, traditions, and lifestyles, fostering empathy, understanding, and tolerance. ▪️Personal Development: Venturing into unfamiliar territories pushes you to adapt, problem-solve, and cultivate self-reliance, leading to enhanced confidence, resilience, and independence. 🔸Learning Through Exploration: Visiting historical sites, landmarks, and natural wonders provides firsthand educational experiences, bringing history, geography, and the environment to life in ways textbooks cannot. ▫️Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Traveling often presents unexpected challenges, such as language barriers or cultural differences, fostering adaptability, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills. Last night, I had the pleasure of joining a live session hosted by The University of Illinois Gies College of Business on “The Digital Marketing Revolution,” and it was an interesting discussion! The professors highlighted the differences between analog and digital environments, and introduced four key ways these worlds interact: Domination, Resistance, Synergy, and Transformation. During the session, we participated in a breakout exercise where I teamed up with a teacher, a doctor, and myself—a brand marketer. Despite our vastly different professions, we found common ground on the pros and cons of the digital versus physical world. Here are some key takeaways: 1. Shared Pros of Digital: We all agreed that the digital world offers unparalleled access to information, increased productivity, efficiency, and convenience. It provides flexibility, such as remote and hybrid work options. Shared Cons: However, the drawbacks are just as evident—digital multi-tasking often leads to reduced focus, a lack of genuine social interaction, and a sense of disconnection. Moreover, privacy concerns are ever-present, with no real escape from the digital realm. 2. The Doctor’s Perspective: The doctor shared that the digital shift in healthcare is becoming overwhelming. Constantly learning new technologies and meeting digital metrics is time-consuming, ultimately taking away from patient care. 3. The Teacher’s Viewpoint: From the teacher’s side, the digital age has conditioned students to passively receive information. Remote classes make it difficult to foster engagement or assess participation. In contrast, physical classrooms offer real-time interaction, where students’ attention—or lack thereof—is visible. Since the semester has finished, it has not kept me from being busy! As for my Summer, I have been continuing my position at Trippet Hall as a Hotel Concierge. Additionally, I have used my time to continue my studies in Data Science and begin studying Machine Learning. Through the help of Codecademy, I am able to learn these topics and utilize the courses available to build my knowledge. Since I am nearing the halfway mark for the Data Scientist: Machine Learning pathway, I have decided to make this post to share my recently completed project.
