“AI on my head” is the current long-term product strategy pursued by companies large and small. Devices, as they embrace AI, will transform how we consider screens… AI is evolving to encompass services driven by text, voice, cameras, and video across various devices in the coming years. This 'holy grail' is propelling giants like Meta, Apple, and Google into a race to integrate 'AI on our Heads'. The journey towards AI 'smart glasses' has been a decade-long endeavor, from Google Glass in 2012 to Meta's current collaboration with Ray-Ban on their Meta AI-powered 'smart glasses'. Apple has also shipped their Vision Pro and aims to upgrade camera sensors into AirPods. Looking ahead, the competition between Meta and Apple intensifies as they strive to embed 'AI on our heads' through glasses, earbuds, and other wearable technologies. Apple, in particular, is exploring this realm with their 'Vision Pro' and Airpods Wearables, hinting at potential camera integration in future Airpods iterations over the next few years.

I recently returned from #btcprague. As always, these events are filled with innovative, smart & passionate people. This event did not disappoint. Michael Saylor’s & Jack Maller’s talks were simply phenomenal. On the back of the article from The Guardian “Banks, airlines and media outlets hit by global outage linked to Windows PCs,” it got me thinking… What would happen if AI services like ChatGPT, Gemini, etc., went down? Why can’t we use these offline instead of being connected to the Internet? Many organisations are becoming dependent on AI, raising concerns around security and privacy. We would witness significant disruptions across various sectors. Customer service, healthcare, finance, and logistics heavily rely on AI to optimise operations, provide insights, and enhance user experiences. The absence of AI would slow decision-making processes, reduce efficiency, and potentially lead to increased errors. The Wall Street Journal broke news this morning that should not come as a surprise that Apple and their #VisionPro has failed to demonstrate any significant market traction. While this is not going to be a major impact on Apple and Facebook it does send warning signals for people in the #AR sector about the challenges for market demand outside of #gaming highlighted even further by Microsoft and their #HoloLens that was focused on the #enterprise and #government / #military sectors too. Pragmatism wins. China is emerging as the global leader in #AI by focusing on execution, applications and affordability over breakthrough scientific innovations. Without those principles, massive R&D and venture investments directed towards infrastructure can yield negative ROI. This dynamic could also impact emerging technologies like #Web3, where infrastructure is outpacing actual use cases. More about this phenomenon from a review of two global ecosystems on different trajectories of AI adoption, from Jen Zhu Scott of IN. Capital in an op-ed in the Financial Times: “Such restraints mean Chinese companies have more incentives to produce AI services built on smaller large language models, instead of training them on the entire internet. They may lack the brute strength of their larger counterparts but they are cheaper to create and run. China’s tech ecosystem is grounded in such pragmatism. Research that cannot be turned into a product within the foreseeable future, such as artificial general intelligence, struggles to attract funding. This means that while the US ecosystem has the edge in groundbreaking innovations, China excels in execution: finding product-market fit, scale, and making applications highly affordable.”

David shared a game-changing insight: Radical innovation is really, really difficult to do inside your own product. He emphasized the need to break free from the constraints of familiarity and embrace change from outside the box.
