Attending #NYTechWeek was a fantastic experience. Here are some of the highlights: Networking with Founders and Funders: Had a fantastic morning breakfast hosted by Republic where I got to connect with folks building incredible companies. There were some amazing founders in the room with huge missions and I'm excited to see them build. Eye-Opening Panel on Delegation: Went to a panel hosted by Double about why founders struggle to delegate (didn't think I needed this advice, but turns out I did). Hearing the panelists' experiences gave me great food for thought on how I'm spending my own time, what pieces of my daily work can be delegated, and how to improve some of our processes here at Worth Search. But honestly, the best part was the optimism buzzing around the NY Tech ecosystem. So many talented people with incredible ideas. It was awesome to get out of the office (aka my house) and meet some of these folks. Proud to be a small part of the NY Tech community for over a decade! Michael was an extrodinary thinker who focused on client value proposition relentlessly and had a touch and skill to build ideas into companies. I met Michael at Exult. He was co-founder of the pioneer in the HR bpo space. Michael drilled into me the client value prop and differentiation which is part of my fabric. Michael also had the ability to be a coach and mentor and was hungry to learn. Michael also had the skill I have learned is rare which is to balance investor interests with that of the management team. And never forgot people make the difference. Jim Madden Exult co-founder let me know of Michael’s passing and commented that he spent a day with Michael last month and thought Michael was happy and content with life. That took me back some 40 years ago to when my Mom died. I too thought she was in a good spot. She had battled her demons of depression for years and in the end it was too much. Of the many things she taught me one was “ kevin you will never know or understand how I feel cause you don’t have want I have “ #mentalhealth So my lessons and reminders for me; 1. You never know what someone else is going through. So listen with both ears and ask how are you really doing ? 2. If you need help please please speak up. Many of us willing to listen and we all have different struggles and don’t compare your insides with other peoples outsides. 3. We can never invest too much in mental health and have too many resources available that is our obligation as employers. However in the end it is a personal journey and people have to decide for themselves what help works for them and to accept it. 4. Accountability and understanding are often viewed as opposites. But we need them both and all about balance. I will miss you Michael Cline. Blessed to have known you and thank you for all you taught me. Mom I miss you today and everyday. Thank you for what you taught me.

That's why programs like 1Philadelphia's Early Validation Academy are game-changers. Last summer, they launched a program specifically to support underrepresented tech founders in identifying and validating their core business problems. Take for instance, an aspiring entrepreneur from a marginalized background, who may have an innovative idea but lacks the resources and network to test and refine it. This program offered not just mentorship but also hands-on training and a chance to pitch to investors, culminating in a $10,000 equity-free grant for selected startups. Creating a new product category is tempting for many tech founders? Do they stand a better chance of winning in a new or an existing category? When deciding whether to position your product in an existing or new category, consider key factors like market size, customer mindset, and whether your product can make it in that category. Sequoia's ARC product-market-fit framework, built on years of experience, offers great insights. I've summarized key points comparing the two strategies: Existing Product Category You’re solving a clear, urgent problem with strong demand. But with demand comes fierce competition. To win, you must stand out. Being faster or cheaper isn’t enough. You need a unique offering and customer experience that sets you apart. New Product Category You see a pain point that everyone accepts as a fact of life, but you recognize it’s just a tough problem waiting for a solution. Customers have accepted it as the norm and aren’t actively seeking change. The status quo feels unchangeable. But you disrupt it with a fresh approach: while facts can’t be changed, problems can be solved. The real challenge is breaking the habit. Customers need to shift their behaviors, and inertia is strong. Your solution must be innovative and impactful enough to make that change worthwhile. Here’s our experience: To start, here’s how we scored: - 85% Market - 90% Team - 87% Product - 92% Traction - Overall Score: 89% Highlights: 1. Investor Concerns and Objections: These were very helpful in highlighting areas we need to be prepared for. The advice on overcoming these objections showed us that we have many important pieces in place. 2. LLM Interaction: It pointed out that investors might be wary about a traditional market adopting a new technology/methodology and suggested we add more testimonials/case studies. We have many examples but didn't think it was as important to highlight so that feedback was invaluable. 3. Comparison to Traditional VC Feedback: Score My Deck seems to be a bit nicer than traditional VC feedback, plus it's not as intimidating when you want to ask a VC a million questions. If you are a startup founder and want help with your deck, this is by far the best experience I have had!
