We need a state-county approach to trade between the African-Caribbean Diaspora. Expanding the African policy conversation from Washington D.C. to our local cities in our state like Detroit, Grand Rapids, Omaha, Charlotte, Columbus, etc. would create a new strategic measure to keep the focus on economic mobility, job creation and direct community development. Also, we need to look at state and county level resources and incentives to attract foreign direct investment from Africa as well as expand on core export opportunities for businesses to launch and expand enterprises in Africa and beyond. It’s time to develop a state model of the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA).

At The Kind Citizen - TKC, I’m learning to be kind to myself, and I hope you do too! 💫 Writing this after experiencing two panic attacks and low BP episodes in the past few weeks. I pushed to my limits to deliver what we promise at TKC and keep the organization afloat. It took these extreme conditions for me to realize that everything I was working for would cease to exist if I collapsed, that moment opened my eyes. Now I can’t emphasize enough the importance of “switch-off” times for entrepreneurs and finding a balance between the passion of building your business and staying physically and mentally healthy. I’ve spoken with many founders who agree—breaking down while building your brainchild is more common than we admit. Work should uplift, fulfill, and sometimes should even knock your socks off out of fear, but what it should not do is drain your energy to the point where it robs the happiness that sparked your vision. Your vision stays strong as long as you do. And Remember it should never be about choosing between your health and your startup, it’s about choosing balance & centering of self.
