Ventura Foods is a California-based joint venture between CHS and Mitsui & Co. that produces oil-based ingredients and food products for the foodservice industry. Co-owning Ventura Foods directly connects CHS farmer-owners to the food supply chain, says Todd Biedenfeld, director of vegetable oil and sunflower sales with CHS. “CHS has had incredible returns from our soy and canola processing businesses over the last few years and Ventura Foods is a large contributor to that success,” he says. “Rewards to owners traditionally end when we ship out the refined oil and meal from our facilities. According to Eschmeyer, two out of three children on average drink a sugary beverage every day. Moreover, children consume approximately fifty-three pounds of added #sugar per year. Sharing more views from the PLMA - Private Label Manufacturers Association show last week in #Chicago, one topic dominated the conversations: the potential impact of new tariffs on the food industry. With many exhibitors eyeing U.S. retailers, the big question remains—who will ultimately bear the cost? While opinions vary, here are some key considerations that emerged: 1️⃣ Availability of Alternatives: Many products rely on international sourcing due to limited domestic supply, cost advantages, or innovation. Are U.S.-based substitutes even feasible? 2️⃣ Implementation Details: How will these tariffs be applied to imported ingredients or packaging? A key consideration for domestic suppliers. 3️⃣ Timing Challenges: Shifting suppliers is complex and time-consuming. Will buyers start to hedge their decisions in anticipation of new tariffs? 4️⃣ Who Pays? High-margin products: Suppliers may absorb costs initially, but they’ll likely pass them on to retailers over time.
