🥽 Surprising Q1 2024 Global XR market share data? Many criticize Apple's new device but they now hold a significant position. My .02 👇 Before making comments about the data, it's important to keep in mind: - This is based on units sold per quarter, not overall sales share - Apple released their device in Feb of this year - Quest 3 was released in Oct of 23 - The data regarding Apple only accounts for US Region for now - Meta's Quest headsets are not available in most Asia countries - PICO is only available in East Asia and some parts of Europe Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let's look at it objectively. For a company that has literally launched their 1st device 4 months ago, and is only present in the US and recently a couple countries of Europe.. I'd say Apple is doing EXTREMELY well, clearly contradicting news outlets out there and what seems to be general consensus. Worth noting - Apple's device is priced 7x more (!!!!!!) than the market's leader (Meta). On the other hand, Sony has shown extremely disappointing market share. Additionally, PICO is also slowly losing market share and therefore losing relevance. Meta continues on the lead with their affordable and powerful device. Based on leaks we've been hearing since the last year, Apple is planning to launch a "Vision SE", affordable version of the Vision Pro with the most essential features. If such thing happens, Meta might be in trouble in the upcoming years.. or maybe not. Given that Meta will be releasing a Quest 3S, a more affordable version of the Quest 3 to take the Quest 2 out of the market.. It could be that we're in for a very interesting fight. 🚫 Could the next generation of AR glasses actually mean the end of advertising instead of the opposite? My .02: I've been seeing this video going around (again) lately, and the timing couldn't be better. With the new Meta Orion glasses just being teased, and the new Snap Inc. Spectacles already available to developers.. It's fun to imagine what could we possibly build with such new and exciting tech. At the same time, there's a huge concern regarding brands on the horizon as well. As you know, I've been an advocate of #Metaverse Advertising, Immersive and Spatial Marketing for years now. I believe that the future will be made of branded experiences, amongst many other exciting things. I think ultimately people will want to have branded experiences, since brands are more and more learning how to build fun stuff instead of just ads. And brands are finally understanding the concept of being part of a community, rather than just having "followers". Alternatively, there'll always be room for "Black Mirror" type of applications that allows people to filter their reality. When we think of ads and brands, I believe that's one of the first things people will want to filter out. It doesn't mean though that everyone will do it, else social media platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and even Snapchat wouldn't exist anymore. This is pretty insane new functionality from Meta 🤯 Make sure you watch the full video, the second half is the most interesting. For those not tracking this story, Meta recently unveiled AI-powered video avatars for creators, which means creators can generate realistic digital versions of themselves. This isn't an entirely new concept for Meta, but up until now, creator avatars could only interact with fans via text. But now they will be able to engage in voice conversations with fans across Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Zuckerberg unveiled the new functionality the other week at Meta Connect 2024, by having a conversation with Don Allen Stevenson III's avatar. While it wasn't perfect, it's pretty damn impressive. There's still a major question mark around if and how creators will use this technology and how comfortable they will be in letting digital versions of themselves interact with fans. But one thing that drives creators nuts is that they can't answer every DM, respond to every comment, and interact with followers 24/7. So as this technology improves over time I don't think it's out of bounds to envision a world where it's used by a large number of creators, as long as it's clear to the audience that it's an AI version of themself. And for brands, the opportunity to create characters is very intriguing. Is the future Jake from State Farm and Flo from Progressive an AI avatar?
