AFC is an ISO 14064-1 certified company. What does that mean? It means that we are committed to environmental stewardship through rigorous carbon management practices. This certification governs and validates our annual carbon reduction goal-setting and implementation of targeted action plans. Our 2023 audit report reveals significant progress - we achieved a 27% reduction in annual carbon emissions from 2021 to 2022 (730 Tons CO2e/yr to 532 Tons CO2e/yr). Notably, these reductions were achieved while maintaining consistent production volumes and quality standards. ISO auditors will be asking new questions this year based on changes to Clause 4.1 of the international standard: Have you considered climate change? To be clear, this is not asking "what are you doing to reduce your impact" on climate change. It is simply asking have you considered the impact on your business of climate change and how it is or will affect your organization. Auditors will be asking you how you consider climate change in your management system. Most likely, you are already doing some things that meet the requirements of this question. Consider: Recycle packaging materials/waste materials or use recycled raw materials Convert to LED lighting or motion sensing automation Change your fleet from gas/propane to electric industrial powered trucks Work with suppliers and customers to implement efficient shipping practices Reuse or repurpose raw materials or packaging (re-use pallets/corner boards from incoming materials) If you are already doing one of the above or considering them, then you will meet the standard. Clause 4.2 also states "Relevant interested parties can have requirements related to climate change." so be aware this may be another opportunity to address in your risks/opportunities matrix. - Quality Progress, July 2024 As an internal auditor, I recommend for each clause that you recognize what you already do in your daily tasks that may fit the standard instead of creating new tasks. Your value it fitting your operation into the standard, not the other way around.
