The time has come to face some hard truths. Over the next 15 years, energy demand is poised to grow by 10%. When we talk about the energy transition, we've got to start looking at this from an energy expansion standpoint. Great discussion on the Gulf Intelligence podcast this morning with Dr Carole Nakhle, Ram Narayanan and Dyala Sabbagh. - Market consensus of #OPEC+ cuts to rollover, to deepen the backwardation for reduced stock builds. - Non-OPEC+ production remains strong, however a quality mismatch exists with oversupplied light sweet crudes and medium sour shorts. - Middle Eastern countries could lose crude market share/revenue but win on products, with regional disconnects and skews existing. - Refinery runs are forecasted to grow by 560,000 bpd between June and August, on middle distillate demand growth. - Run cuts from high temperatures, product stock levels and weak cracks could bring some downside risks. It was a pleasure to have been among the 200+ contributors to the National Petroleum Council's report titled Charting the Course about reducing GHG emissions from U.S. natural gas supply chains. It was an honour to represent Williams and bring a midstream voice to the discourse. Special thanks to Mark Gebbia for giving me this opportunity. Of particular interest to me are the NPC recommendations that: "Federal and state governments adopt market-based mechanisms to generate incentives for investment in GHG emissions reductions throughout natural gas supply chains." And "[S]tandard setting bodies develop mechanisms to enable utilities, gas marketers and consumers of natural gas to differentiate lower GHG intensity natural gas, by providing recognized standards, frameworks, and metrics for buyers and sellers to incorporate into gas transaction contracts [and that] these standards be measurement-based where feasible." It's a dense but insightful and informative report that might be best enjoyed with a fine bottle of Malbec.
