Fintech leaders care about AI, but not as much as you’d think… We recently sat down with A.Teammer Christine Chen, CFA, CIM, who has built solutions for Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, and Barclays—to talk about why generative AI adoption is so hard in fintech and banking. According to Christine, understanding the internal landscape is crucial for navigating AI integration. She identified three key groups within financial services that either drive or resist AI adoption: ▶︎ AI Advocates: Passionate about innovation and eager to implement AI models. ▶︎ Cautious Adopters: Prefer to see proven success in other industries before investing further. ▶︎ Traditionalists: Skeptical of AI, fearing risks and potential job displacement. While AI is crucial, Christine argues it should be part of a broader strategy. Success hinges on understanding customer needs, the industry landscape, and creating cost-effective plans that offer competitive advantages. It's no longer enough to just jump on the AI bandwagon—now, having a well-rounded execution plan is the standard. Christine illustrated this with a use case in wealth management. High-net-worth clients value personalized, human interactions over robo-advisors. The psychology involved in wealth transfer requires empathy and understanding, areas where AI still has limitations. Despite these limitations, however, AI can complement human advisors by providing valuable data insights and automating routine tasks. This allows advisors to focus more on building relationships and delivering personalized advice. Some of Wall Street’s biggest banks are teaming up with BlackRock's Aladdin technology system to provide real-time pricing data for trading US corporate bonds – still one of the most opaque areas in financial markets. The partnership is with BondCliQ. The give to get pricing model is something that has been successful in many ways on Wall Street and bringing more transparency to the bond pricing industry is a great initiative. It will be interesting to see if this has any affect on the other players in the space such as Bloomberg
