Let's talk about the controversial "gotcha" interview question! 👹 As a candidate, I've dreaded these questions due to their unexpected nature. As an interviewer, I strive to avoid them, focusing instead on aligning experience, attitude, aptitude, and cultural fit. However, I believe "gotcha" questions can be beneficial when asked thoughtfully and with good intentions. When faced with a "gotcha" question, you have to think on your feet and support your answer with context (facts, stories, etc.). The focus should be on how you arrive at your answer, not the answer itself. Using "gotcha" questions this way allows interview teams to assess your critical thinking and how you handle unexpected situations. Do you agree/disagree? 👀The Unexpected Challenges of Being a Talent Partner on the Job Hunt👀 🤘As a Talent Partner, I've spent years helping companies find top talent. But now, as I'm on the other side of the hiring process looking for my next role, I’ve run into some unexpected challenges—even with all my recruitment experience. ✅1. Overthinking the Process I know how hiring works inside and out, but that’s made me overanalyze everything—my resume, interview answers, and follow-up emails. Knowing too much can lead to second-guessing every step. I’ve had to remind myself to trust my abilities and not overcomplicate things. ✅2. Balancing High Expectations I know what I want in a job, but that’s also made me more selective. While it’s good to be picky, I’ve realized no role is perfect. It’s about finding the right fit, not checking every single box. ✅3. Some Hopeful Signs I’ve had some promising interviews and feel hopeful that the right opportunity is around the corner. But it’s important to stay humble and keep the challenges above in mind. The job search is a journey, and I’m learning to be patient with the process. ✅4. Managing Patience Even though I know hiring takes time, waiting for the right role can still feel frustrating. But I’m staying confident, knowing that the right opportunity will come when the time is right. ❤️Conclusion To everyone going through a job search, don’t get bogged down! Finding a new job is hard! Make it a little bit easier on yourself by keeping track of your applications. At a minimum, track the company name, position title, physical location (or remote/hybrid), and compensation range. And if you move into the interview stage, save the name/contact info of the people you've talked to at the company. 📲 I love it when I call a candidate I've talked to before and they answer in a personalized way and are available to chat about next steps! 😍 #recruitertips #jobtips #recruitingadvice

As a Recruiter and a phenomenal one, it bothers me when I see posts or comments that bash recruiters. Someone recently commented under one of my posts, saying, "Recruiters are useless; they drag their feet to make hiring decisions and don't follow through." Having been both a RECRUITER and a CANDIDATE, I understand candidates' frustrations. However, seeing comments that say "Recruiters are useless," "Recruiters ghost candidates," or "Recruiters are terrible" is not true for ALL recruiters. Yes, some recruiters lack empathy and customer service skills and probably shouldn't be in this profession. Elevating Talent Acquisition: Cultivating a Strategic Partnership for Long-Term Success Over my 10+ years of experience as a recruiter especially with my 3 years of working at DS and my journey in Talent Acquisition, I have come to appreciate how much this role has contributed to my personal and professional growth. When I first started in Talent Acquisition, my focus was primarily on the operational aspects—filling positions and managing the hiring process. However, as I began to understand the broader impact of my work, my perspective shifted, and I embraced the role of a strategic advisor. In doing so, I was instead guiding hiring managers from start to finish and helping them make informed decisions throughout the recruiting process. This shift has not only enhanced my capabilities but has also made my work significantly more fulfilling. Talent Acquisition is more than just recruiting—it is about building strategic partnerships that align hiring decisions with the brand’s long-term goals. Each position has its unique challenges and opportunities, and understanding these nuances is key to developing hiring strategies that support their growth and success. By taking the time to better understand the manager’s style and the gaps in their team, I can better align a candidate for the role based on those details. Cultivating a strategic partnership can help to enforce communication. Communication is the cornerstone for any type of success in a strategic partnership most particularly with hiring and hiring managers. Talent Acquisition is most effective when it is a true partnership between the TA team and hiring managers. Creating strategic partnerships can help identify role nuances, understand the manager’s style, and develop strong communication. By working closely together, we can make informed decisions that not only fill roles but also build teams that will drive our company’s long-term success. Employers often scrutinize the employment gaps listed on your resume. But here's the thing, trust goes both ways. Before committing to a company, do your own due diligence: ▪️ When was their last round of layoffs? ▪️ How many employees were affected? ▪️Which departments were impacted? Talk about trust issues… They doubt your abilities because you've been unemployed. But how are we supposed to trust them when they were passing out layoff notices like trick or treating candy last year? 🤔 #layoffs #employmentgaps

I don’t mean to let the cat out of the bag, but every recruiter has heard (or said) that you “can’t fit a square peg into a round hole”! Does this mean that we’re barking up the wrong tree? That we’re comparing apples to oranges? For that position, maybe – but that doesn’t mean you should give that candidate the cold shoulder. Too many recruiters treat their candidates as transactional – and so they burn bridges (often inadvertently) instead of building long term relationships. However, if you remember that you’ll catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar, then you can let someone off the hook without adding fuel to the fire. After all, it takes two to tango. So, the next time you’re on a wild goose chase and find yourself talking to the wrong candidate, try to walk in the other’s shoes. Eventually, that candidate may be as right as rain. Don’t miss the boat by treating someone unfairly when you can have the best of both worlds. You may be asking if there’s a method to my madness? And yes, yes there is. Relationships really are the best thing since sliced bread. And when you build rapport with your candidates, they’ll trust you not to throw them from the frying pan into the fire. Letting a candidate know they aren’t moving forward is not a fun conversation… but there are ways to make it positive. Aside from feedback for continuous improvement, providing more context to what happened in the process is super helpful. I recently released a few candidates for a design engineer role. 330+ candidates did not make a screening call with me. 11 made it to a screening call and only 7 progressed into further stages. The candidates that learned how far they actually got left with a sense of gratitude and accomplishment even without a job offer. #interviewing #recruitment #TAtips

Reference checks: A waste of time? A delay in the hiring process? This past month has been incredibly emotional at Boeing, particularly yesterday's events. My heart goes out to all my colleagues and friends impacted by the recent layoffs. I want to share some of my thoughts for those affected by #layoffs and the tough job market - Sadly, plenty of us are going through it right now, but you are not alone! 👊 I saw a ton of negativity on here about the state of the job market. I have been through it myself and it is a stressful and an emotional time. 🎢 However, we must be positive and focus on the things we can control. Here are some of the things I would suggest doing: 1️⃣ Look after yourself! - After 5 months on the job market, I look back and wish I appreciated that down time a bit more and stopped worrying as much (easier said, than done). - Exercise more: Whether that's 2 hours at the gym or a brisk walk, it will change your mood for the better! - Spend more time with the people that really matter. After all, how often will you have this amount of time off again? 2️⃣ Work smart! - I too was guilty of applying for those roles which I knew I weren't the right fit for, long shot right?! But in reality, that's a waste of your time and the company's time. Even worse, you are increasing the volume of the rejection emails! 😭 Instead, be really targeted in your applications. Spend that extra time aligning to those roles - Make your profile stand out! - Use AI 🤖 Questions like: "Why do you want to work for X company?" Always double check the content it spits out before sending it and make sure your personality comes across. Life's too short for long winded application processes! - Structure your job search time ⌛ I spent so much time on LinkedIn and job sites, endlessly scrolling. What a waste of life! Instead, set a routine. Wake up ▶ morning walk ▶ coffee ▶ 1 hour applying for jobs. Your mental health will thank you for it! 3️⃣ Money is the route of all stressors! 💶 - Find a way to make some in come. Can you freelance or do bits of work? I setup a profile on Fiverr and made a Youtube cooking channel for fun, which kept me ticking over and somewhat sane.
