Holiday Travel Concerns Rise: Majority of Americans See Dangerous Driving Surge, Says Leading Media Expert Michael Levine As millions gear up for holiday travel, many Americans are feeling more anxious about getting behind the wheel. According to Michael Levine, one of America’s premier media experts, a significant 78% of U.S. adults perceive cellphone distraction as a major road safety issue, with nearly half reporting that drivers today are less cautious than before the pandemic. A recent survey by the Pew Research Center echoes this sentiment, highlighting widespread concerns about road safety. An alarming 49% of respondents believe that driving behavior in their community has worsened over the past five years, with 23% indicating a steep decline in safety standards. The pandemic brought a surge in road fatalities, and while these numbers have slightly decreased, the fear persists. "The data suggests that distracted driving—particularly due to cellphone use—has become a critical concern," says Levine. "It's not just about texting; it's about the shift in attention and the risk it poses to everyone on the road." Adding to this anxiety is the surge in road rage incidents, with about one in four Americans witnessing aggressive driving regularly. As the holiday season approaches, Levine warns that the mix of heavy traffic and distracted, impatient drivers could lead to heightened risks. I see where you're coming from, and I agree with your perspective. However, the rise of owned channels has given brands and businesses more control over their narratives, allowing them to bypass traditional #media #gatekeepers and speak directly to their target #audiences. This shift meant that companies can now deliver their messages on their terms, whether or not they captured the attention of #journalists. In many cases, businesses no longer depend on press coverage to get their stories out—they're becoming the masters of their own stories; thanks to the dominance of Meta - Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (X - I still will call it Twitter, to be honest), and Google as primary distributors of news content. What’s even more interesting, (at least in the East African Market) is the reversal in dynamics: journalists are increasingly looking to brand websites, social media, and other owned platforms to find #business stories. This shows how much control has shifted into the hands of businesses, and why traditional press releases often feel secondary or supplementary. Unless a story holds significant public interest—where media reach can amplify the message—businesses no longer break back to gain #visibility. So let me say this; the press release model has turned into one small part of many broader, multi-channel communications strategies. Are the people complaining about Oasis tickets going up in price due to supply and demand the same ones who would happily forego gains on their shares or pensions portfolios if the value of them went up due to the same fundamental of A-level economics? Or perhaps (as this is LinkedIn) they run or work in businesses whose pricing strategy never changes, no matter the demand for their product from customers. (As Mr Greenock has turned off comments for some reason, I will repost his as I was going to say something anyway.) Notwithstanding actual technical faults/ crashes, if fewer tickets were placed on surge/dynamic/in-demand pricing they would - by definition - be on the Primary market. They would be snapped up quickly and most of the people complaining wouldn’t get a sniff anyway. Not everyone can get in the gigs. Some people are going to be disappointed. Price is as fair a way as speed online, time in queue or luck in getting through for sorting them out.
