Are there desert lands and wastelands mentioned in the Rgveda? Yes! These Dhanvas (deserts and wastelands) connect Ṛgveda to the drying up of Sarasvati by1900 BCE, soon after the onset of the global 4.2 kilo-year dryness-event that affected all worldwide civilizations. This 4.2 K event hit us during the 8th Mandala Period of the Late Rgvedic Period in around 2200 BCE. This is one of the many reasons why Ṛgveda cannot be dated to far-fetched dates like 12,000 BCE or 22,000 BCE, etc. The Early Rgvedic Period started in 3300 BCE when a rain-fed Sarasvati flowed from the Himalayan Shivaliks north of Haryana to the Rann of Kutch in northern Gujarat. The Rann of Kutch was then a sallow navigable sea. Boats and ships brought enormous wealth from other civilizations to the Rgvedic / Sarasvati Sindhu Civilization through the Rann of Kutch, which passed through Sarasvati, Sindhu, and their tributaries to different regions of the Vedic Civilization, which is today Gujarat, Sindh, Punjab, and Haryana and their peripheries. Dholavira in the Khadir Bet island, located inside this shallow sea, grew into a major seaport and port city by the Mature Harappan Period. Dholavira is identified as Dvaraka. The Rann of Kutch ancient sea is recognised as the Puranic Kshira Sagara. The wealth generated through the sea and land trade passing through Rann of Kutch and Dholavira resulted in the notion of Kshera Sagara Mathana, which resulted in colossal wealth creation (Lakshmi) and other items of prosperity (Kaustubha) and health (Amrita). The Late Rgvedic Period ended by 1900 BCE with the composition of the Rgvedic 10th Mandala. It was also the end of the Mature Harappan Period. Many wastelands, deserts, and dry lands are mentioned in Rgveda during these periods. Camels are mentioned as transport animals during this period. They were used to travel along the arid lands. The Late Rgvedic Period mentions three major drylands and four seas where sea trade happened. The decline phase (the Late Harappan Period) is described in the Puranas as the declining Treta, Dvapara, and Kali Yugas. Historically, the Rama Era was 1950-1850 BCE, and the Pandava Era was 1850-1750 BCE.

Beyond Independence: The Unfinished Struggle for Women's Safety in Bharatvarsh Celebrating 78 years of independence fills us with pride and reflection. Bharatvarsh has a rich history of resisting external invaders, starting with the Aryan invasion around 1800 BCE and continuing through the Persians, Greeks, Hunas, Arabs, Turks, Mongols, Mughals, and European colonizers. Legends like Chanakya, the Mauryas, Porus, the Guptas, Cholas, Chauhans, Bhosles, Peshwas, and countless freedom fighters kept the spirit of resistance alive. Their efforts led to the independence we now cherish. Yet, as we celebrate, we must question whether we have truly achieved the freedom and justice we envisioned. Independence from foreign rule was a monumental victory, but the fight for a truly just and safe society continues. Recent events, such as the horrific rape of a doctor in Kolkata, remind us that freedom is not just about self-governance—it's about ensuring the safety and dignity of every citizen, particularly our women. According to government reports on crimes, India registered 31,677 cases of rape in 2021. 86 cases/Day, 49 cases/Hour of crime against women were lodged. These staggering statistics are a stark reminder that the root causes of such heinous crimes must be addressed, and that societal marches, Instagram posts, and Bharat bandhs alone won't suffice. The real battle lies in eradicating the deep-seated mentality that perpetuates these atrocities. Rape stems from factors like power, control, sexual desire, psychological issues, and sociocultural influences such as patriarchy. Understanding these factors is crucial for effective prevention. To make society safer for women, we must promote gender equality, respect, and consent through comprehensive education and awareness campaigns. Schools should include sex education to foster respect for women's rights. While stricter laws and swift justice are crucial to deter rape but moving forward eradicating the underlying mentality is more essential. Which involves comprehensive sex education, community awareness, challenging societal norms, supporting victims, enhancing legal literacy, engaging men, and addressing cultural sensitivities. Yes for sure, rape offenders must face consequences that reflect the severity of their crimes, serving as a deterrent to others. Achieving lasting change against sexual violence requires sustained efforts, collaboration, and a multifaceted approach which is a long time process. In conclusion, while we rightly celebrate the hard-won independence of our nation, we must not overlook the unfinished struggle for true freedom—freedom from fear, from violence, and from inequality. The legacy of our ancestors compels us to continue fighting, not just against external forces, but against the internal injustices that still plague our society.
