How do you combine SEO and digital marketing budgets?
SEO is a component of digital marketing; when operationalized well, SEO becomes less of a “separate practice” requiring separate objectives, goals, departments and budgets, and more of a value-added, integrated process embedded within brand/marketing activities. In effect, everyone can be responsible for some aspect of SEO depending on their role and professional responsibilities (resulting in a singular budget, resource efficiency, and improved data access). To combine SEO and digital marketing, start deepening organizational knowledge related to SEO and how the component part of the practice apply to those different roles and situations.

How can you identify your digital competitors?
Identifying digital competitors involves a multi-faceted approach encompassing various research methodologies. Start exploring (desktop research) the digital landscape in the context of the brand's objective; analyze industry reports and market data, paying close attention to keyword trends and platforms where audiences are active/engaged. Then dive into audience behaviors, attitudes and preferences with surveys or interviews; understanding audience experiences and preferences reveals the competitors resonating with target audiences. Finally, leverage technologies that provide insightful data on competitive forces, and competitors' strengths and weaknesses, across owned, earned and paid media channels.

How can you improve Quality Score and reduce costs with ad copy and creative optimization?
Quality Score is important as an optimization metric but it's far more critical to prioritize actual business performance (leads, pipeline, bookings/revenue). That being said, QS is an excellent indication of what's missing in an optimal advertising experience for visitors and there are a variety of tactics that can be employed beyond the common guidance of "optimizing the landing page". In tandem with content and experience changes, if the objective is to increase quality score then it's important to leverage other techniques including ad customizers (use keyword insertion to improve relevance), ad extensions (get creative to drive clicks), and leverage ad schedule and geographic adjustments to targeting (to reduce irrelevant clicks).

What are the top mistakes to avoid when creating a content calendar?
The most effective content calendars are those that provide coverage across the customer journey; not addressing the unique needs/wants of the audience at different stages of the buying process - from awareness to consideration, decision/conversion to advocacy - leads to imbalance and wasted effort.
