There is little doubt that AI has caused a disruption within the IT industry. If a company is not investing in AI, then they risk falling behind. Some feel AI will completely change everything. Others feel it is a fad that will fade away once people realize it can't do much more than generate crappy images and plagiarized text. As with most things, the truth lies somewhere in between. It can do much more than the naysayers claim, but not nearly as much as the evangelists would like. But, as this analysis form Gartner indicates, there is one certainty. If you have a job that is in any way related to IT, it is in your best interest to be familiar with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Note that this does NOT mean you need to be an expert in the technology. There are certainly jobs out there for AI/ML experts, and if that is where your passion is, then go for it. But, for most IT professionals, AI is simply another tool that we use to achieve our goals—much like cloud computing and containers. Don't misread these sorts of headlines as, if you are not an expert in AI then your job is in jeopardy. Upskilling on AI covers a lot of ground from knowing what the term means to being able to code the next version of DALL-E. You need to decide what is the right amount for you. I encourage you to never pass up opportunities to learn new technology. Know the vocabulary of AI/ML. Understand how the different models work. Be comfortable having a conversation about the technology and what it means for your team and company. But do not think you need to throw away everything you know and chart some new course into the unknown. While AI is making noise, there is another software movement happening. The open source community is starting to make pretty sexy free software that is aiming right at some of the big players like Salesforce, Atlassian, Okta, Dropbox, Slack and more. Here are the top 5 that are trending across Github, while not yet suitable for enterprise, if you are a small team of under 100 people these should likely go on your radar as a way to save $$ and have a cleaner, easier platform to use. Twenty - Very good looking CRM | twenty.com Huly - Taking on both Jira and Slack | huly.io Hanko - A full auth system taking on Auth0 | www.hanko.io Papermark - Document management like DocSend | www.papermark.io Dub - Bitly like Short links for Marketing | dub.co The play here is that people won't bother running their own instances and instead opt for their Cloud offerings, the beauty of this setup though is even if you do end up paying for the Cloud, you always have an escape hatch which isn't something that is available for many of the incumbents in the space.

I'm excited to share that the workshop "A/B testing at the edge for e-commerce" has been updated. It now includes a new module (3.1) that utilizes both CloudFront Functions Amazon CloudFront KeyValueStore for A/B testing on e-commerce platforms. CloudFront KeyValueStore is a secure, global, low-latency key-value datastore that allows read access from within CloudFront Functions, enabling advanced customizable logic at the CloudFront edge locations. The integration of CloudFront KeyValueStore is a significant advancement, enabling huge computing capabilities at the edge. The CDK source code for this workshop is fully available on GitHub, and there is also a step-by-step version to deploy each step manually in the AWS console. Motivated reasoning is a psychological phenomenon where people process information in a biased manner, driven by their motivations, goals, or desires. It's a type of reasoning that prioritizes achieving a specific outcome or maintaining a particular belief over objective truth or accuracy. Many people unknowingly employ it in their day to day life. Such people often resist changing their minds, even when faced with compelling arguments and evidence. This phenomenon can be attributed to various psychological and social factors, including: - Emotional attachment to existing beliefs - Fear of disrupting their sense of identity or values - Social pressures from peer groups or authority figures - Difficulty understanding complex information - Reluctance to embrace uncertainty - Overreliance on prior knowledge or experiences - Cognitive biases and mental shortcuts - Willful ignorance or avoidance of contradictory information Unless a person is employing motivated reasoning for his self-interest, we can still convince them using these approaches: - Establish trust and build rapport - Present information in a clear, empathetic, and non-confrontational manner - Use relatable examples and simple language - Address emotional concerns and values - Encourage critical thinking and self-reflection - Foster social interaction and discussion - Offer support and resources for further learning - Demonstrate open-mindedness and a willingness to change Remember, changing minds is a complex and nuanced process that requires patience, empathy, and understanding. Recognizing motivated reasoning in yourself and others can help you: 1. Seek diverse perspectives 2. Evaluate evidence objectively 3. Encourage open-minded discussion 4. Foster a growth mindset By acknowledging and addressing motivated reasoning, we can strive for more objective, informed decision-making and constructive dialogue.
