Another coordinative warm-up activation idea for players in the central corridor zones. Each cone has corresponding color with a player. For example, red cone has one player with the ball and one without the ball. Player in the middle is constrained to specific are where he has two touches to control and pass the ball. 1. Coach calls out for example "red" and the player in the middle receives the ball from the player in the red cone. After receiving, the player in the middle should have scanned to find where the other red cone is with corresponding player and 1. pass the ball to him/her. 2. Coach calls another color and the action repeats. Progression: Make the control zone smaller in order to to challenge first touch (imitate play situation as the central zone is crowded and decision-making must be quick). To keep the players around the circle active and engaged, different control variations can be introduced (tictocs, toetaps, croqueta and etc).

To help pitchers tolerate the higher torques of pitch velocity and sustain their performance while delaying major arm injuries, teaching and showing how to incorporate greater impulse of the throwing arm into higher output throwing will be crucial to helping amateur and professional baseball pitchers maintain value for longer. Impulse = F⋅Δt We are building the time scale to produce force into ball release. Think about a long onramp for a car build speed to merge onto the highway at higher speeds. Sequencing better earlier in the pitching delivery will allow your upper body mass and arm to be in a more optimal position at foot strike, generating a greater impulse into ball release. If you sequence poorly, you can still achieve high-pitch outputs, but there will likely be increased torsion and torque on the throwing elbow/shoulder; hence the volume of Tommy John surgeries in baseball. Over the last decade, I've used the Delivery Value System to help educate pitchers on how to sequence better through the pitching delivery to decrease the risk on their throwing arm, improve efficiency/timing, and ultimately tolerate the demands of throwing over their career. Additionally, as pitchers have improved their sequencing (inputs), pitch outputs have had a direct impact. This increase in pitch output metrics is primarily due to the ability to utilize greater mass and leverage into each pitch, thus increasing the impulse of the throwing arm. I've been heavily focused on arm impulse for the last several months and will begin to track and quantify it with a DVS X-ray. In November, after almost a two-year layoff, I started ramping up my throwing to test our mocap kit. In doing so, I've begun throwing more frequently and getting back into positions that allow for demonstration of arm impulse. If you watch the video comparison, you will notice my body and arm orient almost identically into a weight-bearing foot strike. However, as my trunk and arm progress into ball release, I can generate a greater arm impulse, indicative of the video's keyframes. In May's video, I'm allowing more lag time for my arm to create the force and release the baseball with my upper mass closer to home plate as my back foot stays anchored into the ground. This transformation is only possible with the proper alignment and stability of the rear foot and, eventually, the front foot to facilitate the greater impulse of each throw. As I scale up the intensity of throwing, I'll provide additional clips showcasing the speed of the joints and velocity of the pitch for further analysis and illustration of how to increase arm impulse. Do they focus on long-term vision and player potential, or do they emphasize winning and infrastructure? Coaches should believe in every player’s potential and commit to a long-term process. 2/ What Is Their Coaching Philosophy? Assess if the coach has a well-crafted philosophy and can articulate the what and how. Their philosophy should be developmental and tailored to the age group they will coach. You need teachers who can convey the club’s vision in a way that resonates with specific players and parents. 3/ Are They Open to Being Developed Themselves? Identify if the coach is motivated to learn or set in their ways. Younger coaches might lack experience but can compensate with enthusiasm for personal development. Coaches passionate about their growth will push the club’s development forward. 4/ Why Do They Want to Coach at Your Club? Ensure their personal motivations align with the club’s long-term vision. Coaches should view the job as an end in itself, not merely a stepping stone. Ego-centric motivations can lead to apathy and derail club’s progress over time. 5/ Do They Seem Enthusiastic and Motivated to Do a Good Job? Look for dependable people who bring positive energy daily. Coaches need to create environments that kids want to return to, with enthusiasm that enhances the teaching of the club’s vision. Find those who see coaching as a vocation rather than just a job. 6/ Was the Feedback Overwhelmingly Positive from Their Previous Coaching Stops? Thoroughly investigate their past to identify any red flags. Contact people not on their reference list, especially former players who weren’t stars. Finding coaches who add value to everyone requires a close look at their previous roles. 7/ What’s Your Gut Feel? Trust your instincts. While the previous questions guide you, your gut feeling is crucial. Hiring is never completely objective, so follow your instincts when they push you one way or another. Be excited about every person you hire. ___ In Summary... Your organization is only as strong as your people. As a director, you set the vision and course for the entire club.
