My most memorable experiences at UWO (now Western U) were made outside the classroom. In consecutive years, while acting as the Secretary and VP-Finance of the Black Students' Association, I co-developed and implemented the framework that reduced the cost of membership by 40%, added a full spread of (non-pizza) food to the budget for every meeting and doubled our membership. As the VP-Finance for the Saugeen-Maitland Hall Residents' Council (RC), I inherited books from an RC with a "checkered" past but was able to implement a new accounting system and settle inherited payables for about 60% of the balances owing.

In terms of academics, I completed extra advanced accounting courses to prepare myself to pass the CPA (then CMA) entrance examination. My French studies combined traditional coursework with business vocabulary and debate, which prepared me to pass the Paris Chamber of Commerce (CCIP) Examinations.

A great pastor once made this statement in reference to the importance of his wife's support throughout his [ministry] career serving the church. However, as I applied this statement to my own career search, I realized that this statement says as much about my willingness to support and follow as it does about the appeal of my own leadership style to those who have to follow me. I asked myself the following questions and while my own answers are private, I hope that asking yourself the same…

However, as I applied this statement to my own career search, I realized that this statement says as much about my willingness to support and follow as it does about the appeal of my own leadership style to those who have to follow me. I asked myself the following questions and while my own answers are private, I hope that asking yourself the same might provide a helpful revelation, whether at home or at work:

Last week, I had the pleasure of sharing a coffee with Dr. Demo Solaru, Principal at Mid-America Consulting Group and ProviderGateway. Both insightful and entertaining, Dr. S gave me a very frank commentary on today's job market, what employers want and how best to present myself based on the skills I possess. One of the gems I took away from our meeting was the importance of identifying core issues as the means to create solutions that solve challenges, without necessarily addressing "the…
