We had a fascinating discussion about the topic of wellbeing in Recruitment - a topic that is very close to my heart. In recruitment, or some other target-driven sales environment, your PEOPLE are your most important asset. In this conversation, Gordon and I discussed what "wellbeing" means in 2024 and how it CANNOT be just seen as a "luxury". We talked about how you can promote a high-performance culture when everyone has their own personal challenges outside of work - including bereavement, illness, relationship issues and different responsibilities. #BusinessBestieDay #EpicJoyRetreat #CostaRica #DetailsBelow I am declaring today business bestie day. 🤗 After more than ten solid years in business, I can confirm that business besties are a THING! Over the past few weeks, I’ve been engaged in more conversations about these deep and special connections, first thanks to a post by Shonna Waters, PhD honoring her bestie, and most recently two besties who decided on a whim to register for my EPIC Joy retreat together. There is so much life-giving energy that can come from having a business bestie, so today, I’m going to share three of mine. This post begins with Dr. Sonayia Akinlade. When I asked ChatGPT to define business bestie, it offered this: “A business bestie is a term used to describe a close and trusted friend with whom one shares a deep professional connection. This relationship often involves mutual support, collaboration, and encouragement in business endeavors. Business besties often provide each other with advice, feedback, and motivation, helping each other navigate the challenges and successes of their professional lives.” Dr. Sony and I met 13 years ago and it was as if we had known each other for a lifetime. She was my first friend after moving to Atlanta. We quickly discovered a mutual love for the craziest things like working on our laptops in artsy cafes over candied bacon and wine in the middle of the day. We once played on the Atlanta Heartbreakers full contact football team, joined a double dutch jump rope team, and I eventually began to join her family for their annual summer trips, one of which was Costa Rica. In 2013, we launched the Academy of Creative Coaching, breaking into an industry that severely lacked diversity and the visible global leadership of black women. With a mission to open doors and to blaze a trail for greater visibility and influence in the coaching world, we began to combine our traveling speaking engagements as a duo. We are now leaders in our respective industries and continue to support each other through our individual and joint ventures. We are sisters, business besties, and genuinely the best of friends. We have cried together, given each other space, shared our deepest secrets, and created greatness together. Our next big adventure is Zanzibar in August. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Some have said never do business with family or friends. My experiences have suggested quite the opposite, as my greatest business endeavors have been with the people I adore the most. Happy National Latina Day! We’re a few weeks away from the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month! All too often companies focus on a very linear Latinx experience causing many of us to feel excluded. This year, let’s intentionally plan on making sure your top talent is feeling heard. Our beautiful community comes in different shades, backgrounds and life experiences. Use this as an opportunity to learn about how you can better support your Latinx team and clients. Book me to support you in creating engaging and affirming programming for your team. Here are some ways I can support your team 👇🏾 - 1:1 coaching for Latinx talent - A round table for the community to openly and safely share what they most need from their employers. The feedback will then be shared with the leadership team where I will draft a plan to help address the employees’ needs. - I also love hosting training sessions, Lunch & Learn sessions and am happy to be on a guest panel!
