💡 Today’s Slattery Sales tip: Even Delta asks questions. Many salespeople fear asking questions. 😨 They fear their questions may be too invasive this early, may offend the prospect, may seem like an unnecessary sales tactic to avoid divulging info early. They’d rather jump right to show-and-tell. These sellers are not exactly wrong in their fear of questioning, since those are, in fact, risks of asking questions without skill or nuance. No prospect wants the subject of a crime-show interrogation, and no prospect wants to answer twenty useless & invasive questions. We help clients with those issues to enhance their strategic questions so they can collect the information they need to qualify their opportunities AND keep their prospects’ goodwill. But in today’s tip, I’m not going to address those tactics. Instead, I’m going to jump right to the mindset we need to start with so you can ask questions at all. 👉 So. Mindset: Let’s say you want to go on vacation. You call Delta Airlines to ask them how much a ticket costs. Here’s what it sounds like: “I want to go on vacation soon, and I know I’ll probably need to buy an airline ticket, so can you please tell me: how much would an airline ticket cost?” ➡️ Even Delta Airlines, with the simple transactional sale of a consumer airline ticket, gets to ask you some questions!* ❓ Where and When do you want to go on vacation?  ❓ For how long do you want to be gone?  ❓ What time of day are you comfortable traveling? ❓ What part of the plane do you want to travel in? 💡 Do you see how much information is needed even for a simple consumer transaction? We don’t even think about it because computers handle these questions instead of humans now, but the questions are still there. 👉 If you’re a human seller, then you’re definitely selling something more complicated than a simple airline ticket that can be customized & purchased online. Therefore, you probably have even more questions to ask before you can give your prospect an intelligible answer as to your pricing, your relevant features, and even whether or not you’re a good fit for them. 💎 Don’t let your mindset get in the way of asking questions.  💎 Don’t let your prospect’s apparent urgency (“I just need to know what you offer / how much it’ll cost / your features / etc.”) get in the way of asking questions.  💎 It’s the most courteous thing you can do to get even CLOSE to being relevant to their world and answering their inquiries with integrity.
