Top U.S. intelligence officials say Russia and China are seeking to meddle with specific U.S. House and Senate races this election year. While much of the attention on foreign disinformation focuses on its impact on the presidential race, America's adversaries want to exert influence over races that they think are critical to their own national interests. Newsguard Under FCC Chair Carr Microscope ~ Newsguard ‘arbiter of truth’ services at the intersection of technology, media, advertising and marketing to be examined central to censorship of SM users. Carr issued a letter to Meta, Apple, Alphabet (Google) and Microsoft; instructing production of documents relevant to sale or use of Newsguard services. Zuckerberg hits up Trump for meet up at Mar a Lago Wednesday night, navigating tenuous path forward considering prior choices. He is very late to game changing environment. 🚨 *Did the CIA really try to turn a cat into a spy?* 🐱 During the Cold War, creativity in espionage knew no bounds. The CIA's "Operation Acoustic Kitty" aimed to implant surveillance equipment into a cat to infiltrate high-security locations. New: A NewsGuard analysis of the top 500 most-engaged news websites found that sites with lower NewsGuard Trust Scores — those more likely to have advanced misinfo, as assessed by NewsGuard — are more likely to be included in the training data accessed by the AI models. This means that the world’s most popular chatbots may be pulling from untrustworthy sources more often than would typically occur on the open web, such as through traditional search. https://lnkd.in/epKrsU9K

Concerns rise as election deniers flood officials with FOIA requests Many US election deniers have been inundating local election officials with paperwork and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to find evidence of fraud. This has put a significant burden on election workers who are already overwhelmed with their regular duties. The use of generative AI, such as chatbots, could exacerbate the problem by enabling the mass production of FOIA requests. Experts are concerned that governments and AI companies are ill-prepared to defend against these tactics. The difficulty lies in distinguishing between legitimate requests and those made in bad faith. Some companies have pledged to develop watermarking systems to designate AI-generated content, but these are still early. It is crucial to address these issues promptly to ensure the security and integrity of elections. https://lnkd.in/g6Df5yVD Platform: WIRED Author: Vittoria Elliott #disinformation #election2024 #uselections #artificialintelligence #aichatbots #ai #misinformation #elections

The conference for the International Association of Chiefs of Police is the largest gathering of police chiefs in the United States, where leaders from many of the country’s 18,000 police departments and even some from abroad convene for product demos, discussions, parties, and awards. I went along to see how artificial intelligence was being discussed, and the message to police chiefs seemed crystal clear: If your department is slow to adopt AI, fix that now. The future of policing will rely on it in all its forms. Officers training in virtual reality, cities surveilled by webs of sensors, and AI-generated police reports are all a sign of what’s to come. There were three #SmallSat acquisitions in the first few weeks of August. Were these three acquisitions a sign of #consolidation in the SmallSat industry or a result of multiple, smaller trends? I sat down with Andrew Cavalier of ABI Research, Dallas Kasaboski of Analysys Mason, and Chris Quilty of Quilty Space to explore the market pressures driving acquisitions and answer the question, "Is there consolidation in the SmallSat industry?" https://lnkd.in/edvpKygj #satellite #mergers #acquisitions

Defending Digital Campaigns Michael Kaiser sheds light on the tactics used by bad actors in election interference, emphasizing their goal could be to sow chaos and apathy rather than influence voting. “They’re trying to divide us at another level,” he said. “For some bad actors, the misinformation and disinformation is not about how you vote. It's just that we're divided.” Learn more in Paige Gross’s article in States Newsroom about combating misinformation and disinformation in the upcoming elections. #Misinformation #Disinformation #Election2024 #ArtificialIntelligence #AI https://lnkd.in/eBypvBP6

EIN Presswire - Everyone's Internet News Presswire™ - has quickly become a relied upon service for professional communicators and when organizations need to get their news in front of the media, stakeholders, and the public that goes online looking for news. And EIN Presswire's pricing is incredibly affordable - hundreds, if not thousands of dollars less than other services, and there are many reasons for that - first and foremost, because EIN Presswire owns and maintains its own proprietary distribution technologies. https://lnkd.in/dSVY_bM4
