FODAC is preparing two shipments this morning—one bound for Florida, and the other for FEMA to distribute across South Carolina and North Carolina. This rapid response is part of FODAC’s long-standing commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities during natural disasters. The team is scrambling to prepare and ship equipment to affected areas as quickly as possible to meet the overwhelming demand. WHY: With the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, many individuals along the East Coast, from South Carolina to North Carolina, are in immediate need of essential medical supplies, including oxygen tanks and concentrators. FODAC is rapidly mobilizing to meet these critical needs, providing life-saving equipment to individuals with disabilities and medical conditions who have been impacted by the storm. Black Music Appreciation Month is a time to celebrate the profound impact of Black musicians on American culture, particularly in the realm of music. From the earliest days of rock and roll to the modern era of alternative rock, Black artists have played a pivotal role in shaping the genre and pushing boundaries. The history of alternative rock is deeply rooted in rebellion and counterculture, and Black musicians have been at the forefront of this movement. Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bo Diddley, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Tina Turner, Jimi Hendrix, and Prince are just a few of the pioneering Black musicians who have left their mark on rock music. Despite the stereotypes that often surround certain genres, Black musicians have consistently demonstrated their ability to create diverse and unique sounds, blending influences from punk rock, hard rock, hip hop, and folk music. The Black Alt-rock bands of the 1980s and 1990s, such as Living Colour, Rage Against the Machine, Fishbone, and Bad Brains, have made significant contributions to the genre, pushing boundaries and blending different styles to create something entirely new. In Denver, artists like Elyjah “Tribe” Youngblood are challenging stereotypes and showcasing the diversity of the music scene. Youngblood, a Black Alt-rock artist, is a prime example of the power of music to challenge the status quo and express individualism. As we celebrate Black Music Appreciation Month, let's take a moment to reflect on the contributions of Black musicians to music and culture, and to recognize the diversity of sounds and styles that make up the rich tapestry of American music. I have hosted/produced over 1000 community events. Through Art ala Carte, The MOB Nation, Show the F*ck Up Media, Magic Hour Hawaii. I have helped dozens of event planners, community leaders, creators, and networking groups with their community events. I have learned (over and over again) that if an event is free you will get the most sign ups you have ever received and 75% of those people will not show up. Today's Intentional Netwerking Call was a reminder of this. (No shade- I have signed up for free events and not attended myself). They have to have "skin in the game". This is a truth that I often try to talk myself out of believing. Because I love community and I love being able to create rooms for connections- and I want them to always be accessible to all. But time after time, it has been proven true. ✨ ✨ ✨ Here is what I have learned to do instead ✨ ✨ ✨ 1) CHARGE THE MONIES- EVERY SINGLE TIME. Add a price/value to the event. The people in the room will be those you know are invested in what you are bringing to the table. And for a community like mine, I like to know people are invested because that tells me they will also invest in the other members as well. Which is the network I like to create. Reciprocal, action taking, move making folks. 2) Do not feel bad about the price. Because you are guaranteed to show up brighter, bolder, and more intentional. Plus- please hear me- people that facilitate spaces and build rooms deserve to be compensated- this is HARD AF work. 3) If you have dream people you'd like in the room. (If you know their presence will add value to your event OR if you know someone may need that financial blessing and know they they're going to get so much out of it). ➡ ➡ ➡ Send a personalized message with a free ticket invite- as your VIP guest. This wording is KEY. ✨ VIP GUEST ✨ This still says to them "the value is $______. And you are being gifted this". They honor this opportunity and show up for it. Some of you may have received a message like this from me- surprise it's because I actually think you are so freaking rad and love to have your energy in my rooms.

THREE (3) REASONS LOCAL TV NEWS IS THE MOST TRUSTED & VALUED By Hadassa Gerber In a year of the unpredictable, where a presidential election can be rearranged in the blink of an eye, hurricanes can make their entrance in the unprecedented month of June and the economic outlook weighs heavily on consumers – audiences may wonder where to turn for consistent, reliable news. A recent study commissioned by TVB and conducted by Dynata sheds light on just how crucial local TV news remains in the daily lives of its viewers across America. The study, which surveyed over 3,000 respondents, unearthed several compelling insights that underscore the pivotal role of local broadcast TV in people's lives: A Trusted Source Local broadcast TV was the most trusted news source while social media was the least trusted. Whether someone is experiencing severe weather, following a sports team, or tracking a key election race, most respondents turn to local broadcast TV news to keep them informed. The study also found that 76 percent of those who use station websites/apps also consume local TV news on television, highlighting the complementary role these platforms play in viewers' media diets. As several of our studies have shown, it's not "either or," it's "and." Localism: Strong Connection with their Communities Among its viewers, local broadcast TV news is the number one source for news, not just local news, but all news in general. And why is that? Local TV stations have cultivated strong brands over decades, rooted in their ability to deliver news that is not only relevant but deeply connected to the communities they serve. Half of local news viewers select it as being the most involved in their local community. Eight out of 10, specifically cited hat they "want information that pertains to the area I live in" as the top reason for watching local TV. Viewer Commitment and Consistency Further, we found that nine out of 10 respondents watch local broadcast TV news at least once a week with most of them watching daily. They value it so much that 73 percent said they were likely to drop a provider or look for other options if they stopped carrying their local news station. Local broadcast TV news is the lifeblood of local communities. It is unique in its ability to deliver news from a local perspective, foster community engagement, and build enduring trust. Local broadcast TV provides a great venue for advertisers wanting to associate with a trusted, believable platform, to showcase their product and services. The California Employment Development Department may soon stop recognizing loan-out corporations. This means that productions would have to pay cast and crew working through loan-outs as an "employee" for purposes of payroll and taxes. This could mean these cast and crew would no longer be able to deduct business expenses related to their jobs and could also be taxed on any commissions paid to agents, lawyers, etc. In a year that IATSE has already struggled, this news is a blow. This article in Deadline provides more info, including that IATSE and DGA are aware of, and working, on this issue: "Loan out corporations are typically single-owner LLCs, allowing a contracted worker to provide services as an employee of their own corporation, rather than receive payment directly as an individual. They can then pay themselves a salary, and even contribute to a retirement account on their own behalf. While loan outs aren’t exclusive to the entertainment industry, many film and television workers utilize loan out corporations as a way to protect them against liability and receive tax breaks on business expenses related to the job. Deadline hears that all the Hollywood guilds have a pulse on the ongoing situation."
