Erosun offers vocational and life-skills training to enable participants to transition into community living and employment. Erosun was founded by my friend Sunday Shitta, an immigrant from West Africa whose firstborn daughter has autism. Inspired to learn that in the US, services existed specifically for people on the autism spectrum, Sunday and his wife created Erosun to help others like their daughter.

Health care workers in poor countries face heartbreaking circumstances when they know what to do but are stymied by missing or broken equipment. Imagine the anguish of treating a severely premature newborn in a ward where an incubator with a broken heater sits in the corner covered in dust. Encouragingly, development partners are testing new approaches to make sure that vital maternal health equipment is available when it’s needed. Concern Worldwide has been working with partners in Kenya to move the production of maternity care devices much closer to where they are needed. Concern has launched the “Maker Movement for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health,” which brings together local talent and expertise to devise locally produced, life-saving medical products and spare parts that meet the needs of labor wards in the region. Today, an increasing number of major maternal health initiatives involve partnerships, with each partner bringing to the table unique expertise, assets and know-how. Together, they can amplify their impact and meet social needs while also enabling private sector partners to advance business objectives.
